No Gas, Just Food & Wood Porn

On Monday Rick was working in someone's bathroom.
He went out to his truck as he does to mix some chemicals and when he came back into the house the homeowner told him that she left him something on the bathroom vanity.
She was leaving for an hour but she'll be right back.
His first thought was, "Oh, this isn't good"

When he got there he found this on the vanity. She told him later that she thought he looked like a milk and sugar kind of guy. And he is. So she looked at his big ole belly and thought this guy likes all the fattening stuff so let's load up the coffee.
He found that humorous as well. And the coffee was very good - not as great as the cinnamon roll which I have heard about for a couple of days. Homemade no less.

What is funny is he said he could smell the cinnamon rolls and thought to himself, gee why do people do this to me? The Friday before it was bacon. The smell of bacon is an aphrodisiac to him if you ask me!  Wasn't this nice of them? (do you remember the people who fed him and he was at the wrong house? why does everyone feed him? he doesn't look like he's starving)

Older people feed him. They see that big ole belly and probably think, I can get to him by food. Younger people offer tips. Funny how that works.  And now that I think of it when the floor people were here I fed them too. I'm old. So guess that does work that way.

In other news, my husband as I have mentioned watches a lot of woodturning.
Making bowls vases etc. There is one person on youtube who he watches and I tease him about it. You see most are a bunch of fat old white guys. One guy from Canada is just a hoot because he is damn funny and I happen to love his accent. I believe he is from Saskatchewan. There is the big man from South Africa that works in a lot of wood I have never seen before because they are endemic to where he lives. But some are so gorgeous. Anyway, there is a lovely blonde thing in America who he watches. Besides doing great work, she gives great tips on tools and if you don't have this, try this, type of thing that he finds very useful being a beginner.

Now Kim is blonde, blue-eyed, and as pretty as can be.
So when I first saw her that is what began me asking him if he was watching wood porn.
Rick follows some of these guys on Facebook. They share ideas and comments on the work. They ask questions and learn new things.
Rick wrote on one post yesterday that his wife walked in while he was watching Kim and asked if he was watching wood porn to which he replied, "yes dear"  Well Kim actually saw the post and loved the comment and wrote back.  All the guys got a kick out of this. OOooh Ricky the pretty girl liked your comment & wrote back to you. (yes that was me saying it like a 5th grader to him all sing-songy)

Kim is a bible thumper and brings something about that up in each video.
When she starts that stuff Rick says he can't take it and will FF through her religious stuff.
I said, "Well, I have no worries now do I?  You'd never leave me for a person who tells you that Jesus saves every 10 minutes."
He laughed and said, "She's so pretty you knew she was either crazy or a bible thumper."   What?

In all seriousness, why do men think if you are gorgeous there has to be something wrong with you?
So what is wrong with George Clooney then?

I never feed any workman that come to the house, in fact most of them don't even want a drink nowadays. I assumed it's because of Covid, but they all bring their own drinks. Suits me. :D

LL, he brings his own food and drink too. But this was very nice of her.

That was sweet of her and it just may be an old lady thing. I have fed my workmen and keep them hydrated. When I was younger, I never thought about it.
Well if Rick's blonde wood porn gal learns of his FF through her sermons, he may go off her most favored list.

I don't think I've ever fed a workman coming to the house because they charge by hour. I once had a guy spend 15 minutes doing is personal business in the bathroom and his dump cost me $22. I was so mad he charged me for that time which I didn't notice until after he was gone. Didn't have the heart to call his boss because no one should lose a job over a body function but after that, I've kept better track of the time I'm being charge for.

Patti, I was raised to offer so I still do it. I did it when I was in my 20s too. But Rick's wood gal - last night when I came downstairs there was silence as I got to the 2nd landing and I figured he and Izzy were out or they fell asleep. I was only in the laundry room for a few minutes. But I came down to him watching her make this awesome bowl with resin accents but it was muted. He said I just need the technique and tools I don't need to listen to Jesus talk. It made me laugh.

When I have people working at my home I always ask if they would like some water, coffee or pop. Usually they say no but I like to ask. The ones to say OK, they always say a big thank you and they do their work very well. I know that I pay for their work but usually the work is difficult or dirty so I like showing them that I'm happy that they are doing a job that I could never do. Hey Rick, don't worry about the big belly. I've got one also. See ya Peg.

Paul I agree with you, just some common courtesy. And when they get it as you say they are so darn appreciative.

Jean, This made me laugh because it made me think of my favorite Moen Commercial. The plumber who comes out of their bathroom from installing a new shower head and he tries it out and walks out with wet hair, tucking in his shirt and tells them it is working just fine. The look on the homeowners faces says it all! I'm sure that was how you felt too. Although coming out and telling you your toilet is working fine would be just as awful. I have never been charged by the hour by a service person. Could that be a Michigan thing? Maybe that $22 was a service call fee. All companies have those no matter how much time is spent there a service fee is a service fee. My dad was a plumber and did not charge by the hour, but by the job as all my plumbers have done so I think I just got lucky! And since in our area the service call fees are $250 and up I'd be happy about the $22. But that had to be many many years ago to be only $22. Either way thanks for the giggle. I do so love that Moen commercial and it's because it has not happened to me as it has others and yourself.

Don told me he had a customer (80 yr old woman) who insisted he always schedule her furnace maintenance to be completed by noon so she could feed him a a full dinner when he was done. She was alone but used to feeding her farmer husband and Don was appreciative a that home cooking.

Olga, oh that is so sweet and sad for her. Yes Rick has had some lonely older people feed him, ask him to "sit a spell" to chat with them. He always does because he says it takes just a few minutes to make their day and he would want his loved one treated that way. Better than how people were acting at the gas pump yesterday. I went back to one of the stations when I heard they opened up one pump. I waited in line for 42 minutes - then I was number 2 and I couldn't wait. The guy in front of me only got $9.00 and change and they ran out of gas. I rolled up my windows so I could scream. It helped.

I think the treats are more of an old lady thing. I've often wondered if I should offer something up to contractors at the house, but thought it might be weird. I love that she even covered them in plastic wrap!

Margaret (Peggy or Peg too) said...

Abby, this woman was in her early 40s if you call that old.

In a previous life I operated a handyman business. I had a handful of "regular" customers who, I guess, enjoyed my company and fed me all kinds of wonderful things. Unfortunately for my health, all the wrong wonderful things.

Balanced, that part sucks but giving food has always been about love, thanks, all good things. So it was meant as a kind gesture really. But not kind to waist and heart probably.
Or is that my Italian heritage talking?
