Baseball and Insomnia

You all know that since I was a kid I live and die for baseball.
I watched MLB last evening and honestly these rules are so crazy for the 60 game season. I wish they would have just canceled it. I think we will see a huge spike in cases throughout baseball.

I read where a player on the Red Sox isn't too thrilled to be playing but he has no "reason" per the Red Sox to not play. Their manager isn't thrilled either citing his age etc but he has to play.
Ryan Zimmerman from the Washington Nationals has chosen to sit out the rest of the year. Due to his new baby, family health issues, he fears it is too risky to play for him. I applaud him. But does he take a cut in his pay for this? I would bet he does. He and a co-worker, Joe Ross I believe, both chose to sit out the season and he thanked the Nationals for allowing him too.
I am guessing they are allowed to opt-out if they have good reasons. I think the friggin' pandemic is reason enough but apparently not. Those playing that don't want to feel they have to and that's a bit scary to me.

I believe there were 4 so far in total. 2 of the nationals and 1 from the Rockies and 1 from the Diamondbacks. These are 4 smart guys if you ask me.

Some of the rules for this 60 game sprint makes me giggle.
No spitting.
Now look, I understand that ruling completely. But it's like asking a hockey player to play nice and not fight. Spitting in baseball is a staple like fighting in hockey. Players can't spit, can't lick their fingers, no grabbing your fellow teammate when he hits a grand slam or homerun as they do around the home plate. Oh, there are a plethora of rules, all crazy sounding but I get the need.
Personally, I just don't think they should play ball.
I also think out of habit a lot of these will be broken. It will be difficult I am certain.

There is no chance in hell my team can win this 60 game sprint. My team just gets warmed up at 60 games so we're screwed. The Marlins have a team of big linebacker looking, fit new men. The new pitchers they just got aren't so small. I was watching some MLB TV and they showcased them. As well as their farm team that sounds and is beginning to look like it's being built right from the George Steinbrenner playbook. I think Jeter is copying his old boss and that ain't a bad thing for him. Anyway, my TV time showing these guys - Oh my are these big strappin' boys. Enough to make you want to watch baseball ladies.
I know, I know I like 'em big like that so I am enjoying it.
Remember when baseball players ate and drank and then played ball like Babe Ruth? You could be fat and still play.  Those days are long gone.
My ex played minor league ball and he worked on his forearm strength and things like that but he was tall and lean. Never in all those years did I see him do a lot of working out the way they do today with arms bigger than my thighs.
He was long and lean and had that great stretch for first base kind of long and lean look. Today he'd be called skinny and short being only 6'0"

Will I be watching? Oh yes, I will.
I watched an old game the other night with my insomnia from 2004.
Not as much fun when you know who is going to win.

And speaking of watching weird-ass things at 2am.
I am hooked on Lennox Hill.  It is on Netflix.
It's about the hospital and you watch people come into the ER, you get to know that resident or doctor. A resident you get to know that is pregnant and is an OB/GYN and delivers babies. A team on the Neurosurgery is the main focus. Brain tumors and spine issues etc. Some are hard to watch but for some reason, I am digging it.  Those dying and their requests are gut-wrenching so the last one I watched I cried like a baby. Most are uplifting though.  Have any of you seen this?

Massages

Mondays are horribly busy here in the office.
This Monday was not. Hmm...that's weird. I don't often post on Mondays for that reason unless it was written days before.

The company that hosts (go daddy) our website also provides us with a few other things that come up for renewal from time to time. We have our company credit card on file and things automatically renew. I will normally receive an email telling me that things are set to renew or this or that will be suspended if not renewed etc. I ignore them because all products we have with them are on auto-renewal. Never been an issue...UNTIL Monday.

You see we had fraud on that card. I thought I called everyone and had the cards changed but apparently, I did not. Oh, I don't wish to tell Ricky about this blonde moment. I am telling you I have COVID brain.
So I saw the suspension if not renewed but ignored it because as I stated above this is what they send until it is renewed via our card on file.

I come to work and see our website is down. Holy Shit!
I call them and am on hold for 40 minutes. I went into my account and changed the card but it wouldn't take it.  So I sat on hold.
When someone named Bradley finally got on the phone I explained what I was in a full panic mode about and he said I see you made the changes let me put them through. Viola, website back up. He was laughing because I was so panicked. But that site is our lifeline sadly. I am glad they got it fixed quickly.
He thought he was calming me by telling me it happens all the time. It didn't work.

He wanted me to renew this for 7 years. I said no if I am doing this in 7 years please shoot me.
He just laughed and probably thought I was a real weirdo.
Which is correct I am, but not about leaving the working world and retiring.
Although neither Rick nor I will ever not work. We just aren't those kinds of people, I so wish we were.

Speaking of doing nothing I did just that on Saturday. Oh, I did some laundry and some plantings on the patio and piddly things like that.
I am in a detox of sorts by my doctor well not my doctor. My doctor sent me to a specialist to get to the bottom of an issue I've had for over 35 years. It can be debilitating. So I am taking a bucket load of stuff and I am having symptoms pretty bad. It just magnifies all the issues I have and they are all fighting this medication and making me a bit sick. Nauseous and just flu-like. I feel like my body has been beaten up I am sore from head to toe.  My shoulders and lower back are so tight they hurt. I have been trying these things I do along with on youtube but it wasn't helping. So my dear hubby said he'd give me a massage since I can't go to the lady I go to for massages during this pandemic.

I said, "for real? You'll give me a message? You can never massage me, it is two minutes and then it leads to sex? Just a massage? Really?
He laughed.

Rick: Yes I promise just a real good massage. You so need this. I've had massages that you have booked for me. You need this, I see it and I am going to help you.

But with the twinkle in his eye, I did not believe him.
Or with that laugh that would accompany him saying, No I promise a real honest to goodness massage.  I said yes to the massage but in all honestly never believed it would take place as he was saying this.

Later in the day, I asked, "Is there something, anything, you wish to tell me?"
Rick: MARGARET I AM JUST BEING NICE AND WISH TO GIVE YOU A MASSAGE. JUST SAY THANK YOU!  NO ULTERIOR MOTIVES. I PROMISE.

Me: Okay, thank you!  But I was still suspect, I hate to admit it.
Never in 33 years have I gotten a massage that was more than a couple of minutes seconds on my shoulders and next thing you know my bra is off along with the rest of my clothes. I know his M.O.

Later that afternoon he called me from upstairs. He had laid out a beach towel on our bed. He made this awesome headrest so I could be faced down and breathe from an enormous bath towel. (size of beach towel)   I saw the candles and I saw the oil, the drapes closed and soft music just like at the masseuse and I thought, he is really going to do this!

I recall a few minutes of the massage, I recall turning over. I recall how much I needed this and if felt so damn good.
Out of the hour-long massage, I think I was awake for 15 minutes of it.
I recall waking up 3 hours later, still lying on the bed where I was massaged.

I got dressed and ran downstairs and he said, "good nap?" and laughed of course.
OMG yes! That was awesome. I thanked him and kissed him repeatedly.
Then he said, "Margaret there is something I want to tell you."

Damn it. I knew it!
I snapped my body around to face him so quickly that he began to laugh.
Rick says just like the commercial, "just kiddin' Mare".
There was no bad news.
I swore if there was no sex there was something bad that he needed to tell me.
But apparently, he was just being a great guy.
I Love it when that happens!

Friday all Day

It's Friday and I am glad this week is over. Hell, who am I kidding I feel this way every damn week.

I just got off the phone with another nut job. Look, Mercury is in Retrograde. That means all types of technology and communication will be off/bad.
But this is just full moon shit. Nuttier than the next.
The man just asked me if we would fix his toilet because it keeps overflowing.
I told him he had to call a licensed plumber. He then said in a whiney sing-songy voice and I quote, 'Aaaah, but they are sooo expensive.'
As he gets in his Mercedes parked in his 1.5 million dollar driveway.
I wanted to say, "well so are we" but I refrained. 😛

Yesterday morning I had a woman call and just began by yelling.
"When will your man show up? (my man?) I didn't think there were windows of time. You told me 8am. It's after 9" And she just went on.
OOh, boy was she on fire. Now what you need to know is after an appointment is confirmed an email is sent with the confirmation of the appt date/time. It also has a document attached going over what they need to do prior to arrival. It also mentioned the wearing of masks or we can't enter etc.
When she was done yelling at me I said, "Anna, I sent you an email confirming Friday, June 26th at 8am. Remember you told me you preferred a Friday because you had other contractors coming and Friday worked better for you?"
All she said in return was a snarky "just fine" and hung up.

Rick arrived this morning and she has a leak coming from her ceiling and a big hole in it. They can't find the leak. Rick said it was dry, he went up there to help her. Her plumber never came back and isn't returning calls. She also had a painter spill paint on her hardwood floor in the dining room and he didn't clean it up and the most important tidbit is her house goes on the market tomorrow.

Rick called me to tell me that she asked him to apologize to me for being so rude yesterday. She was having a bad day. The plumber didn't come back, the painter spilled the paint and she was thinking we were to be there and we were no shows like the plumber. She actually told Rick, Peggy was right I did ask for Friday and she confirmed it verbally before she hung up and she sent me an email. So please tell her I was so wrong, she was right.

Bloggers, are you sitting down for that? Rick called me to share this when he went out to his truck to mix chemicals. First apology in 14 years. He knew I'd appreciate hearing that and I did. He then asked, "was she as awful as she made herself out to be?"  I said yes. He laughed and then said, "well at least she apologized we all have bad days."  Yep.
When do I get to take it out on someone though? Well, other than Rick.

Yesterday at my lunch I saw something on TV that I recorded for Rick to see. Rick and I had just talked about these 2 shows we watched religiously as a kid.
So I hit the ole DVR to share with him.
Neither of us knew these shows were still shown anywhere.
When Rick got home he saw them and he laughed.
It was Concentration and Password.
Concentration was not the original in Black and White, this one was in color and from the clothes I'd say the early 80s. Alex Trebek was the host.  I used to watch the black and white version with my grandmother as a kid. My horrible Grandmother who always smelled of mentholatum ointment and always gave us pastina with butter for lunch while watching Concentration.

Rick and I were talking one evening about the game Password because when we play games like this we can't be partners.
We were reminiscing about how mad everyone gets at us when we are partners. We will always win and it's not fair and more importantly, we don't enjoy people getting pissed at us. My sister got so mad at us she got up and walked out of the room.  She insisted we were cheating. We weren't.
We just can look at each other and figure out what the other is trying to say. I don't know how it happens but it does. When we click, we really click. Too bad there is no money in that!

The Password Show was from 1961. Betty White was a celebrity guest as was someone I never heard of that was a Broadway Star. I was only 5  years old in '61 so he may have been a big deal.
Betty wasn't even married to the host Allen Ludden yet.
We watched the show and I do the same as I do with Jeopardy -  yelling clues out loud but this time Betty would say the exact clues I just yelled.
It was wild! Rick looked at me and said, "why can't you do this with lottery numbers or something of value to us?"    From your mouth to God's ears.

Yes, folks Rick and I do discuss such useless information, don't we?
We were discussing how the 60s/70s and the Vietnam war made such great music. Protests songs, yes, but great songs. I saw a comment on the video below where a person wrote 'the only war with its own soundtrack.' Absolutely.  Not only do 'artists' today not play their own instruments most can't even sing without autotune. And protest? Can you see Beiber protesting anything except that his car was towed or something frivolous? (like wearing a mask)

I'm having a fun Friday night date on the deck/patio tonight.
Our last evening of nice weather. Is it 5 yet? Happy hour will commence on the patio if you want to social distance and join us.

Have a great weekend everyone and wear a damn mask for heaven's sake when you are out and about! It shows off your beautiful eyes!

Chopped

I am not a fan of grocery shopping.
But I hate to put it all away even more.
Everything is put away where it's always been in the last 20 years of living here.  As I have told you here before I have to do that because Rick doesn't move things or REALLY look.
If I have to move things I have actually said, "Hey I am moving this to the shelves on the door it's easier for me to reach."
He always says, "Okay" but he isn't actually listening.
He lost the ability to listen at the moment he said, "I do."

Last night Rick made his 'famous' fish tacos.
Now, they are only famous in his mind you understand.
I don't eat any type of seafood so he was on his own here.
He told me he'd make them.
Fine with me, I'll have a glass of wine and sit at the island and watch you.
He was frying these on a pan on the grill.
He was trying something new he told me.

He got out 3 plates. I asked if he was dredging them.
He was indeed he tells me.
One plate for flour, one for the eggs, one for panko bread crumbs.

Then he went to the pantry and just stared into the abyss as he is prone to do. I am watching him and not asking if I can help him.
He comes out with the flour container and fills that plate and adds some spices he wanted to use in the flour.
He whisks an egg or two in the other plate.
Then he goes back to the pantry and stares. Never moves a thing.
I know he is looking for the panko bread crumbs. But they weren't jumping up and down for him to see.
**They are on the 2nd shelf from the top on the right towards the back. (it is taller you see so I can see it - method to my madness for this short gal)

He turns and looks at me. He began to smirk.
I knew damn well he didn't want to ask me.
I asked," Hey Rick, Is this like the show Chopped, only instead of not knowing your ingredients, this show makes you have to FIND your ingredients?"

Oh my God did he laugh.
He said, "that would be a funny show"
And you wouldn't win my dear!

I told him where his beloved Panko Crumbs were located and he says, "oh yea"

Honestly, if he didn't make me laugh I'd have to kill him.

Thank You!

Thank you all for the kind words and congratulations yesterday!!
I feel like a fool that this all happened on my post the way it did.

I was at my desk answering phones and doing my job when I realized it was coming on live in a few minutes. I am no longer on FB so I signed into Rick's Facebook and watched it live from there.
As I waited I thought I'd write a post.
I knew I couldn't work on a spreadsheet or customer emails and listen to the numbers. I am no longer good at listening to 2 conversations at once as I could when I was younger.  I prayed the phone would be quiet for a bit so I didn't miss hearing my number called or not called.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would happen while I was still typing up my post. That was a bit wild. I'm sorry about that.

I texted (or is it just 'text')  Rick and he asked if I was sure.
Yes, I heard them call our number.
I don't think he believed me. I explained that when the man said we are down to the last 12 numbers I yelled at the screen and viola he called our number.
He suggested I try that for a large lottery win as well. I may have to!

My hairstylist got 20K in PPE money.
She is using this to remodel/updating her home with this.
That is seriously not right in my opinion.
She also got unemployment and she is an owner and I was denied for that very reason.  I didn't deserve it to be honest. That is why we never filled out the forms when given to us at the beginning of this all.
But someone again suggested we do it. While we weren't working every day we had some work come in for vacant properties etc. It was something. So how could I in good conscience ask for unemployment? Everyone told us to and push forward. I filled out the forms but both Rick and I said if we get approved we didn't think we'd take it. It just didn't seem like the right thing to do if we worked even just 1 day week. We realized they could deduct those earnings from the unemployment but as time went on we were working a bit more so we just felt it wasn't the right thing to do for us. We are nowhere near back to normal. Honestly, what we made in a week we are now making in a month so it's a bit dire. The same amount of money is going out unfortunately but it is what it is and we are dealing. Each day is a bit better so I am not trying to whine about our situation here. Please understand that. We know we are damn lucky right now. But knowing I can buy supplies without pain is a blessing!
We were officially denied unemployment so we didn't have to make that decision.
As my hairdresser told me these things I said nothing. I was furious but she had a razor in her hand. This really bothered Rick and I both.

That PPE money was to keep her company afloat. It was to pay her employees. To keep people working and the economy running. She has one part-time intern. Not for new carpeting and new kitchen updates. I am certain she lied on her application to even get approved. But she has to pay it back so there is that. She's concerned because the rules change on a daily basis on that money and it's loan rules and payback rules.
Oh well, that is her issue, not mine. I've read that nightmare and heard it from other business owners. But my thought when she told me how the rules constantly change that  - He is your leader not mine and you believe him so it's your own fault.

She is the one who told me you didn't have to make mortgage payments. So she stopped making hers. Come to find out I was right not trumpy (surprise!) and she had to pay 2 months at once quickly so she didn't get in far worse trouble. I kept telling her the mortgage companies are not going to forgive this amount or put it on the back end. They only give you a 3-month reprieve from paying and on the 4th month, you must pay all 4 months or foreclosure proceedings. She kept saying, "Good ole Mango Mussolini said on TV that I don't have to" I told her her first mistake was listening to that idiot. Nothing he says is true or even remotely accurate. But his cult members are as dumb as he is apparently.

The small amount we got yesterday will not be for us to take a weekend away or to do anything more than continue keeping our company alive and thriving.
I know she was in this lottery. I did not look for her name. She is a cult member of Mango Man. She bitches about socialism - then don't take the gov't monies. Don't take what you don't need. There are real people suffering out there. It fried my ass to be honest with you and has made me start thinking if I need to find a new stylist.   Okay, enough of that.  She is not my problem.
I am happy as is Rick for getting the help we received.

In the meantime, people calling me are completely nuts.
Full Moon?
We have had an upswing in business this last week which we are thankful for but...
I had a woman called me yesterday and I found her difficult to understand. Her accent was heavy.
She was I am going to venture a guess, Chinese.
She was loud, and her cadence was like she was always mad and yelling.
She told me, "I want you come to my house Friday to do job"
First of all who calls and when you say hello says something like that?
To start a conversation like this told me where this was going to go.

I told her I couldn't on this Friday. She yelled I mean yelled, "what you mean you can't? I want Friday."  So after we went round and round to the reason why this Friday is full for us could we do it next week she began to yell at the top of her lungs in her native tongue. I can only imagine what horrible things she was saying to me. I actually wanted to giggle but suppressed it. I was thinking of all the fouls things she was calling me and for some reason, I found it all very funny at that moment.

When this woman finished her tirade I said, "Do you wish to book another date then?"  She began speaking in Chinese AGAIN. I told her when she came up for air that I can not understand her native language so if she could answer me in English it would be most helpful. She said something again in Chinese and then said okay give me Monday. It was said like an order, not asking. I did as I was told and just wanted her off the phone - she is Rick's problem now. HA.  Nice of me don't you think? 😀

Yipee!

I am listening to our county business development call numbers that he is randomly picking from what looks like a bingo cage. It is streaming live on FB and on their website. We were offered a grant of a small amount in a lottery-type winning.
We had to apply, explain how COVID has effected us and they would call for more info.

This is called Loudoun Development Business Interruption COVID Fund.
They are giving away several million to small licensed businesses in the county.
They sent us info because we were unaware of this program.
After we received the email Rick applied immediately.

I got a call a week ago and more questions were asked of me.
Then he said we were approved to be in the drawing. (lottery style)
Yeah. Then we were assigned a 4 digit number.
This 4 digit number is what they will be calling if we are chosen.
There are 400 that will receive this out of 600 who applied.
So far we've been close but our number has not come up.

Rick and I don't ever win anything so I am thinking we won't here either.
But I can hope. It would be so damn helpful.
We did not get a stimulus, we did not get any PPE money and we could not claim unemployment. This would be oh so very helpful as we slowly move forward.

The man calling the numbers is funny. After the first 100 he made a joke. I laughed out loud. Then when the got to around 250 he announced that he had just read 250 and said, this is like watching paint dry, isn't it?  Then he went on to explain the reason they chose to do this. Then he read the number 5150 and said anyone know what significance that has in the rock music world?  I yell to my computer screen - Van Halen Album. He then said the same thing. I'm now talking to my computer screen I think I have lost it.
Me being me, talking back to the screen and I yelled, C'mon call my number, C'MON!! I'm behaving like I'm at a race or something cheering on a number.

Ooooh, they just called our number!!! Yipee. OMG. Whew.

I am going to go call Rick now and make his day.
Yeah!

Gray Gray Don't Go Away

Last night I made the mistake of saying, God, I miss baseball!
My husband got in my car and it was on the MLB station on Sirius.
He heard some of the issues between MLB owners and MLB players.
The players have been asked to receive only 1/3 of their pay.
The owners of course love this idea and the players rejected it.
They are also not agreeing on the number of games to play.

My husband who only cares about baseball because of me began his tirade of reasons the players are horrible. I played devil's advocate and explained the owner's side. When this was done he said, "Damn you I don't wish to see both sides of this" as he laughed and walked away.

I see both sides and I don't see how this can be resolved.
Besides as soon as they begin to play the "injury" list will grow because this guy will get sick and give it to this guy etc. Then the fools who go to see the game will be spreading this and we'll end up like the dumb Southern states who's numbers are going through the roof.  I think we just have to cancel 2020 and be done with it. I don't want to but I think it is the smartest thing to do. So if it is truly the smartest thing to do, they won't be doing it.

As a business owner if I lost all of the revenue streams for my business I would have to cut things somewhere. You can't "layoff " a player so to cut their pay makes sense to me. I also understand that if my former company tried to make my contract null and void and pay me whatever the hell they wanted to would not make me happy. So I see both sides.
There are other terms as well but that is the biggest along with the number of games following at number 2.

Rick had a very nice contract when he was the Vice President of Human Resources. I asked if his former boss had a financial struggle, yet he is still beyond wealthy if you would accept receiving only a 1/3 of your pay to help offset the company to help them out. Rick laughed and said, hell no, but added, if it is between that and losing my job I'd hang in there until I found another one.
Alright, I get that.
I then asked him," what if your contract says you can't go elsewhere for 5 more years?"
He said he'd be pissed. So you see why they may not like their big pay cut?
All I got from him was  'damn it, Margaret.'
Then I got his side, which I agree with 100%. That is the issue for me. I see both sides, management and players, and I don't see this coming around to a resolution. Something has to give. I wish it were Covid-19.
If it were me I don't know that I would play at all for fear of getting sick. But I also think I'd take the pay cut since you know the owners are losing buckets of money right now you can't possibly NOT understand their point of view. TV money, concession money, ticket sales, merchandise, etc. I am sure their money coming in helps with the money going out. You can't buy a player for 17million and not have some monies coming in or there may be fewer teams after this.

2020 has just been the worst year. I always say that even years are my worse. Odd years work out better for me in my lifetime except 1969. (mom died)
So I am wishing for a quick end to this year! I just want it over. A new fresh start and hopefully a vaccine or something to stop this bugger.

But in the meantime, I am working as is Rick.
We are not busy as normal but it's enough to keep the lights on.
It is very tight. It can be scary. But it could be worse we just keep telling ourselves. There are people out there who can't feed their children. So this has to be put into perspective.
Not that I don't wish to whine from time to time but overall this has been stressful but not as stressful as some things that have occurred in our lives.

On an upbeat note, I did get a hair cut. That felt great. No more tucking my hair behind my ears. No more wearing my baseball cap.  I had to defend my right to let my color grow out. She was not happy. I told her, "Look if I hate being all gray then I'll go back to coloring it but right now I want it all gray"

There is this great colorist I follow on Instagram. Jack Martin is his name.
(yes I follow a great many hair stylists because I love that shit)
If you have gray roots and you wish to go all white he is the man. He does fabulous work. He is in a little shop in Irvine. In a plaza no less. But his Instagrams have made him famous as well as the great work he does.  So now celebrities are going to him. I saw him first!
He just did Sharon Osborne and Jane Fonda's color. I admit I don't care for Sharon's but if she likes it that is all that matters. Jane is over 80 for Pete's sake so let her be gray!! She rocks the messy spikey do. Is there anything that woman can't do? She is just gorgeous.

If I could get these ingredients I'd do it myself. I think the reason my stylist is putting off doing this for me is she has never done it before. Once your hair goes gray you can't just let it be. It can get a flat looking color to it, it can yellow. Lots of reasons why you'd still have upkeep if you are so inclined...and I am. So while she won't be getting $200 every 5 weeks from me I will still need it cut and some other things randomly for upkeep. She is not losing me entirely. She offered to do this for me as her guinea pig.  I said sure. Look, just do it!!  Like I said I'd buy all the things needed if I could. However, I am no longer a licensed professional so I can't. I wanted to show you some of the before and afters side by side but it won't allow me to copy and paste them and I certainly understand why. If you have Instagram here are a few links.

Gorgeous right? We will see if I can pull this off. The sooner it's all white the better.

Would you do it if you could? Or will you color your hair until the very end? My step mom used to joke about me coloring my hair and said not to be like my Aunt Filomena who had black hair in her coffin. It was hideous, but if she didn't use a box it would have looked fine was always my reply. (she was 85 at her time of passing)
I figure if I hate it, I can always dye it again right?
Then again, everyone may think I am Rick's mother and he is actually older than me.
He has a salt and pepper beard, mostly salt. But his hair is still brown with just a few strands of gray on the top. I say go gray Rick, the top doesn't have a lot of hair so any color it is he and I should be thankful!

And if you are on Instagram and not following Celeste Barber then you are missing some funny schtick. She makes me smile daily. I need her in my life.

Genetic Detective

Have any of you watched The Genetic Detective?
I have watched other shows with CeCe Moore. I am aware of her because it was about people finding their birth families which as you know Rick tried to do for some time. So that made us aware of her.
She is an interesting character for sure. Actress, model, and then genealogy expert. Quite an interesting trail.

If you aren't aware of her she is THE genealogy expert. She has moved her focus from people finding lost family members to helping detectives solve cold cases across the country. Maybe you've seen her Ted Talks.

It honestly floors me each time how she comes up with the person who did the crime. I admit while I watch this at times I have had to pause and ask Rick if he understood that? Sometimes neither of us knows what she is talking about. I never have a clue to what 2nd cousin removed is.
I also never knew that boys get their X chromosome from mom never from Dad.
Don't laugh at me now! I guess I slept through that part of my science class.

While I am neither smart enough or patient enough to do all that needs to be done in this detective work I am still fascinated by it.
Hell, I got bored doing my own family tree so I know I couldn't do this kind of work but so happy someone does!
The people she finds in these cold cases is from doing a family tree backward.
Another issue was back in the '80s and 90s they needed a huge sample of DNA to retrieve anything of quality.  Technology, as it does, moves forward and now they only need a small sample which is great for older cases.

A company locally (well local to me anyway) in Reston VA called Parabon NanoLabs works with police and CeCe and they get it done. All of these pieces are quite impressive to me. Cece, Detectives, and Parabon Labs can now go back to these cold cases where they were originally told they didn't have enough DNA to find the killer. She found the killer in 1 hr that was a 30-year-old cold case. Needless to say that mom was thrilled that the murderer of her daughter was finally found and rightfully punished.

Not much on regular TV these days of interest to me so this one stood out. Then when I saw it was CeCe I had to watch.
I love Dateline and 48 hours so this fits into my wheelhouse.
Have you seen this yet?

Thursday Memes

Are we at all surprised that the 3 states of Texas, Florida and Arizona have had their highest numbers of COVID since reopening?
It's not right but it makes me laugh. Dumb asses. You can't make me wear a mask, oh but now you're making me wear a respirator! Damn you!

If something reopens here we still have to wear masks. I don't get these red states and their lack of smarts. The only good thing is the GOP convention will be there and most of those idiots will get it too.
Yes, I'm going to hell for that.

The new blogger interface starts next week I believe. I am certain the changes will not make it better. You know how these changes and updates never fix anything. I had an update on my phone and now nothing is working properly.
I am hoping it will allow me to comment on everyone's blogs again. But let's hope it's not worse than it is now.

Here are some current event Memes for your Thursday. I got these from my Instagram or when I used to be on Twitter.

I love this first one. I love that everyone is there getting along. Barbara Bush is making Pres. Obama laugh. I know there is a friendship with Michelle Obama and Pres. George W Bush. Nice isn't it? Will anyone ever like Mango Mussolini besides the Chinese who he is in cahoots with? Doubtful since Melania doesn't even appear to like him. And can you blame her?
There seems to be a Stupid Theme in our country. How proud.

This one reminds me of the comedian Ron White. He even had a special with the title You Can't Fix Stupid.

I had to explain this to an adult. What did he do with his parent's money that put him through college?
 Very well put Mr. Rock

This is another statement that floors me every time a goof ball says it because it is just fundamentally dumb. But I think he explains it to the clueless very well here.
I just had to throw in a cute one!

 Amen!

Now 4 months into lockdown and having tried to get this money from the gov't and jump through hoops I couldn't agree more with this below. We, little guys, got squat for help unless we wanted more debt. Don't believe what you hear on the news it wasn't a grant. Those were for the big guys. The little guys could take money but also had to pay it back and we haven't even gone back to normal so how do they expect that? Looting is an understatement.  If we took what they offered I'd be having to pay them back now in monthly payments and I'd just be deeper in depth. It made no sense and was not the least bit helpful.
This week Rick has been the biggest cranky bastard ever and I may need to do this. :-😉 Hopefully he'll have a reset and be back to himself SOON.

Short Arms and Old Dogs

My car is so old I do not have built-in Sirius Radio.
I have one that sits on my dash.
My old one died and they sent me a newer model.
What they didn't do is have all the parts in the box.

In my professional terms, we are missing an important Thingy that goes inside the knob in the back which stops it from spinning around and holding still on my dash.

We called Sirius but no one understands my language so we got nowhere. We tried 3x and each was worse the one before.
Apparently, Rick decided to jerry-rig the damn thing himself without the proper Thingy that was missing.
He put tape of some sort to hold it in place.
He did this with his 6'2 arms. It was perfect for him.
He never told me he did this.

I got in my car today with Izzy to run to the post office.  I went to change the channel and I was snapped back by my seat belt and I couldn't reach the numbers. He has it turned too far facing the passenger side.
I had to take off my seat belt to move forward enough to reach the buttons. I had to laugh. He always forgets about my height.
Remember our first selfie where he got his face and only my forehead?
It's a classic photo if you ask me of us. Goofy and not quite right.

He always teases me about my T-Rex arms and then he did this again to me.
I know he was trying to do something nice for me but I so wish he'd consult me first. After 33 yrs you'd think he'd remember that I am more than a foot shorter than him.

In the meantime, I was belted in and had to listen to horrible music until I could stop the car and remove my seatbelt. Oh no the world will end!
Seriously I had a good laugh in the car and talked to Izzy in the back seat like she understood. I told her Daddy was goofy and look what he does to mommy all the time.  She sat up and was smiling. I swear this damn dog understands me.

Here is the thing with Izzy.
She wants something, we know the drill. If she just tries to herd you to the door she wants to sit on the stoop. If she herds you with her bumper and she keeps coming back to get you she wants to go swimming. If she has to go to the bathroom, she will stare at you. Oh the sign language we have had to learn.

We will say, "Want to go for a walk"  She shakes her head no. Where did she learn this? We will say, Want to go swimming - she grabs her bumper and runs to the door if that is what she wants.  We will ask, "Want to sit on the stoop, she grabs her stuffed bear and runs to the door. She knows what each of those is. If she wants to sit on the stoop as she did last night and neither of us wanted to I might add, she will wait until you get to the right phrase.

Rick was standing in the kitchen and he knew she wanted to go sit out front.
He played with her. Want to go for a ride, she shakes. Want to go for a walk? She sighs and lays on the floor. Want to go sit on the stoop? She gets up and grabs her bear and runs to the door? Seriously she is crazy.

On Saturdays, she goes to doggie daycare from 10 - 5pm. Not every Saturday but enough that she knows. We have always said, "c'mon Iz let's go play with puppies" So she knows what that means.  I open the front door and she runs to our car.
This past Saturday she did indeed go to doggie daycare for a fun swim day they were having. I was sitting when I asked, "hey Izzy want to go to play with puppies?"  She runs to the door and turns around and sees I'm not moving. She comes over to me all excited, tail going like a windshield wiper, and then she rubs her face on my thigh and tries to get me to stand up and go. (she will herd me like a cattle dog)
I laughed and said, "okay okay we're going"  and by that time she was at the door waiting.

This past weekend she was sleeping or so we thought by the snoring.
Rick and I were at the patio table on the patio. She was by my feet sleeping.
Rick and I are just having a normal conversation and the word swimming was said. Not Izzy swimming. Just talking about a friend and a pool.
She heard the word swimming and she jumped up and went crazy because she thought we were going swimming. So now we have to spell. For the love of God, I thought I'd only have to do this with children, not fur babies.

Everyone here in our development knows her.
I don't know how to be honest.
We drive to the pond daily to let her go swimming. We know if we walk there she will drag us there on every stinkin' walk. So we drive so she doesn't know where this is. How pathetic and manipulative are we?

At the pond, the people who live across the street always wave to us.
They say they enjoy watching her swim and dive for fish.
Well, this past weekend they were talking to some friends apparently and we heard everything. Oh, that dog is here every day. She gets mad at her owner when he wants to go home she actually acts and sounds like she's talking to him. (I've shared those videos) It is so funny and entertaining. Someone asked," she doesn't run off being off-leash?"  Someone else was heard saying," Oh no, that's Izzy she is awesome. She just follows the fish or her owner." True.

Rick and I were howling. Izzy is very well known around here and we find out this all the time in different ways every week. It cracks us up. When we sit outside with her as she likes strangers say, "Oh my gosh is this Izzy?"  Yes. And we think, who the hell are you?  Because Izzy likes to greet the kids every afternoon when they got off the bus (pre-pandemic) all the kids know her. I think they tell their parents because during this pandemic a father was on his bike with his son and his son pointed over at us and said Dad that is Izzy. (Same thing happened with a young girl)
On their way back the father asked if they could pet her. Sure and the son said, "she likes when you do this dad, as he rubbed behind her ears" It was cute.
The father said he's been hearing about our dog for years. Sorry, we hear that a lot.

Some days I think if Izzy had thumbs we'd all be in trouble.
Remember I had to change all my door handles from lever to knobs because she was letting herself out before she was 1 yr old. She is a smart quirky character who has really really slowed down.
I know what is coming and I fear it. Sometimes watching her breaks my heart.
She is larger than life around these parts and her not being around will be huge.
She is 11.5 and limping and taking meds for arthritis and CBD's. Swimming is honestly the only thing she enjoys anymore. Walking she would prefer to never do again. I miss the long walks. Now they are short ones. She also at times seems confused. I wonder if that is senility. Do dogs get dementia?

Lately, she is a different dog. Still funny and smart but different. Some of her senses seem dulled. I guess that is all part of aging for dogs as well as humans.
Aging seems to suck for us both.
