My niece's wedding is off.
Oh but not like you think, it's COVID 19.
The venue was making changes that were costing her more money, and then they were told no dancing.
They went 'round and 'round and it wasn't anyone's fault, just life today with Covid-19.
The venue started with COVID making them change from Buffett to it must be a sit down with wait staff, so the waitstaff doubled the cost of that part of the wedding, then they had to add more tables so people could be far away and not so many at one table. It doubled the size with the tables needing to be so many feet away. It was all Covid-19 related issues one after the other but the last straw was when they were told her no dancing. She said they were okay with most of it but the costs were doubling and while it concerned her, the no dancing was the straw that broke the camel's back.
She said to me, "Aunt Peg what is a wedding with no dancing?"
Ah, just dinner?
So this will all be done again, same time next year.
I am proud of her. She is handling this with such grace.
She's not thrilled but she said it is what it is and they were accommodating when she said No, we need to cancel, can we have this date next year? They said yes. She has a friend who canceled hers too for close to the same reasons. Slow summer of weddings I imagine.
My niece said she was still getting married and that is the best part.
I asked her if she was okay and she said I knew this on Friday and I had the weekend to figure it out with Randy. We will be fine. We are in love, we will get married and I will have babies. I laughed.
The bridal shower I was throwing would also be held then next year.
I have not heard from the venue to see if we can do this. I left her an email and a voicemail. The woman has been dreadful to work with once she got my $400 deposit. I know I won't get my money back she has told me this many many times. I am sure she too is hurting due to Covid-19. This could be over so much faster if people would just buck up and do what they are told. I know it's hard but what a bunch of whiny ass babies everyone is acting like. I find it appalling and yet this young woman is handling it this with such grace. I made a point to tell her so.
All I know is my dining room will be cleared of glue guns and bridal shower things. I won't mind that.
It also means I don't need to lose 100lbs in 2 weeks and I don't have to worry about my hair which really bothered me.
See? Some good news!

Too many restrictions and added COVID Costs certainly are causing issues with venues. Such Grace indeed and the pressure is off you to do a starvation diet. *Winks*
And maybe you can get someone else to do it next year. You have a whole year to work on it. Well, six months anyway.
I'm very happy you don't have to risk your life and Rick's to throw a party.
And that 100 lbs in a couple weeks may have been slightly risky, too. :-D
I am literally laughing out loud about not needing to lose 100 lbs. in 2 weeks. SO RELATABLE. LOL LOL LOL
Good for your niece! I hear some couples are choosing an extremely small wedding now, party next year. I figure whatever each couple feels is right for them, is right for them. :)
Makes more sense to do a tiny wedding now and a big 1st or 5th anniversary party.
So many life events - weddings, graduations, senior proms - have been cancelled this year. I'm so sorry for them. Your niece is a champ.
I used to work with a Wedding Planner and a Caterer, then occasionally I do wedding planning, so I can just imagine the headache and disappointment your niece was feeling. But as you mentioned, it seems she handled it quite well. Lots and lots of changes and postponements of wedding, graduations, trips, and even some funerals. I wonder if things will ever get back to normal in my lifetime. Hugs, RO
I guess lots of the rituals and ceremonies that we are used to are on hold. I feel sorry for the babies that are born during this. I just wonder what they will think once they see that people have faces.
Bohemian, all true! :-)
Mike, I already bought and spent everything so nothing to do. But I will never offer again for sure.
Ami, I too am thrilled about this because they don't get this pandemic up there. Their city has had as many as we've had in our subdivision - 138. So they don't get it.
Silver - yep she is doing "her" thing. She is a bit bohemian and reminds me of a beautiful hippy from the 60s. Her heart is that. Her look is today. And she is fabulous!
Jean, agreed!
Barbara, I spoke to her last night. She truly is a Champ. I agree with you.
Well! That worked out for you. Sorry for your niece, though. Not the best time to celebrate a wedding, but it sounds like she - and the venue - are handling it well.
And I get it, the cafe' where I work hasn't had self-serve anything for over 2 months. No salad bar? Not as bad as a wedding with no dancing.
I feel so bad for this bride. She will get married soon after this mess is finished. I hope she continues to smile. LOVE will never stop even with this Covid. See ya Peg.
Lockdown Paul ( Steve from England calls me that. )
How disappointing for your neice but she really is handling it well. Bummer if you can't get your deposit back. Maybe it could be considered advance payment for next year.
Abby, it did kind of work better for me. I did not get my deposit back but the nasty woman who never returns phone calls informed me this morning that I can use it as the deposit for next year. Whew. She is a cranky gus and she said this isn't even real and it's hurting her business. Oh my. Like my business is doing well....please we are all in this together.
Paul - I like that Lockdown Paul!!
Patti - see my answer to Abby about my deposit. I spoke to my niece today and she said she was eating ice cream for breakfast and I said, hey remember you have to fit in to that dress and she laughed. I told her right now it seems hopeless. But when she has kids she will tell them of this time like Daddy told us about the depression. She laughed and asked if she had to add that they walked up hill both ways. I said of course!!
This "thing" has certainly affected some more than others. I feel for them. I am sorry that your nieces day has to be delayed but she has a great attitude. As for cranky lady....she wants her money on the other end so no wonder she's being somewhat amiable for a crank. But really! Loads of people are suffering...not just her.
I just got my last week of federal help and am looking forward to getting back on track with some earned income. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Linda, you got federal help? Sigh! Good for you. It's something. We are working but it's light. Barely getting what we need. It all sucks but I'm still alive so there is that I suppose. Depends on the day you ask me.
I really don't think it's going to be any better anytime soon. Cases are going way up here but we are acting like it's getting better and opening things up.
