Lenny, Taylor and Jada.

You all know my love for Lenny Kravitz. I've mentioned it here many times.
If he were tall, he'd be perfection. I guess everyone is given at least one flaw. Lol
Seriously what deal with the devil did he make to look so good at 59?
I like his music and he is simply fine.

Last week apparently a new video came out of Lenny's. I got so many links to this video it was hysterical. My girlfriends from all over the country sent me the link to the video. After the first couple I laughed, then it became very funny to me that all my girlfriends would send me this.

One sent it and said, "Don't say I never get you anything!

My friends up north came through, one sent in the early morning hours.
That was the first one.
One sent it and said, "It took me a while to even know there was a song" Yep.

As the time got later the west coast started chiming in.
I guess you could say I am predictable since they all sent it.
11 of them to be exact.
California, WA, VA, PA, FL, MD, ND, and NY.
C'mon, that's funny. 8 states.
I told some of them next time please send money.

This is a bit Prince-like and I do prefer his more rockin' stuff but again, it's Lenny. I will overlook that part.

Now I have no idea what tk421 means but...
_______________

I am sick to death of seeing all the 'news' about Taylor Swift at a football game. Please! Stop it. Every friggin' day.  I am so glad she isn't dating a baseball player. I would HATE it if she were the topic and not the game. I wonder how real Kansas City fans feel about this. Anyone?
______________

Speaking of sick of - Jada Pinkett.
This woman is everywhere touting her bs /book.
The other night she was an entire hour-long special.
Oh, she is special all right. Rick went to bed early and knowing he would never watch it I thought I'd give it a try to see if my opinion of her would change. Oh it did nothing but put the nail in the coffin for me. I think she is a liar and bitch with a capital B. I found so many inconsistencies and it was frustrating me that no one was calling her on it. The 'reporter' would smile and go along. I was screaming at my TV.
She and Will have not lived together as a married couple for over 7 years.
Why stay married if you haven't lived together for 7 years?
Okay, that's what they wish to do, so be it. Not harming me.

But its the way she treats the man she's married to. I feel she emasculates him and makes him look the fool.

It was all about her being a victim.  She talks about her affairs, her depression, and her relationship with Tupac (dear lord when will she stop talking about him?) She claims not to have seen the slap at the Academy Awards. She thought it was a skit.
I so wish someone would call her on her shit. Chicken reporters.
I'd have asked why did you roll your eyes when you were laughing at first if it was a skit?
Bad skit?
Then she threw not only everyone under the bus with her husband Will, but she also did the same to Chris Rock. Apparently, Chris asked her out years ago when he heard they split up. She claims Will and he have bad blood between them from that. Okay, let me get this straight - they weren't living together, and it was reported they got a divorce. He asked if true and would you like to go out?
Why would there be bad blood if you are sleeping around during this time and telling everyone who you were sleeping with? Did you tell Will who you were sleeping with during these 7 years too or just Chris Rock?  Hmm...convenient for your story though.
I wonder who is falling for her BS?  Did she tell Will for a reason other than to make him jealous? They weren't living together for years at this point she claims.
But no one confronts her with her stories that don't line up. And heaven forbid you call her Will's wife. She claims they aren't living as husband and wife, but they aren't getting a divorce. Boy calling him her husband or her his wife made her a bit snippy.
Seriously stop talking woman!
Get a therapist like the rest of us and chatter your ass off.

She sickens me. Gorgeous, but boy not nice to others who circle her!

Pumpkins

Rick and I lived behind, or depending on how you look at it, in front of an enormous pumpkin farm.
People came from many states, as we'd read the license plates in the parking lot.

Rick and I wanted to go something terrible, but we didn't have kids. Neighbors would say, too bad you haven't any kids so you could go to Cox farms.

One day Rick retorted to this male neighbor, "They will let us in without children, won't they?"
The man appeared shocked at the very idea. That made us decide to go.

So what? We needed pumpkins too.
(we got shamed like this at a water park in my hometown once too)
We paid our entrance fee and walked around this enormous farm.
So much to see, do, and buy.

For me, three things have stood out over the years.
1. A 3/4-year-old whose mom gave him a tiny Dixie cup of goat food as he entered the pen. I was leaning on the fence just watching this adorable little boy.
He fed the first one, grabbed his tail, and lifted it as he scooted down to examine the goat's butt. I howled at this. He continues this on every goat. Oh, he didn't bother to feed them anymore he just studied their butts. His mother finally saw this and asked what pray tell are you doing? He proudly said, 'Looking at goat butts Mom" She ran in and stopped him and made him wash his hands.
I thought it was funny. I'd have been a bad mom, wouldn't I?
2. A friend from up north/hometown, came down after a pumpkin farm convention she attended in the Midwest. Yeah, who knew there was such a thing.
She and her husband wanted to open one on their farm and the one by my house was the one all coveted. So, she asked if I'd go with her. Seeing this from her side was interesting. From the food to the games and entertainment she saw differently than me. It was so interesting.  I went to her pumpkin farm the first year she opened it and let's just say. it fell short. I hear it's far better and larger now. We are no longer friends, so I only know what I see online.
3. At the end of the season they fling your pumpkin. After Halloween, if you bring your pumpkin, they will fling it. It was an enormous catapult. Sometimes, it was dropped from a high bucket like a linesman uses. Rick had a niece on his shoulder when they dropped hers. They announced whose pumpkin was going to be dropped and she got so darn excited. We adults knew they filled them with water, but the small kids did not. They showed her pumpkin raising it high above the man. Everyone cheered, and then it was dropped. Pumpkin parts and the water went everywhere. My niece got splattered. She was grossed out and giggling all at the same time. It was fun watching that.

Due to the traffic during the fall, we had to take a different road in and out of the development. It was just craziness for a couple of months. During the day the place was packed with school buses and school field trip events.

Halloween here is not much fun. No trick-or-treaters. No pumpkins to put out since no one comes here. It bums us out. Yes, we could get pumpkins for just us but why bother, it's just not the same without kids. And honestly, it was a reason to buy a box of full-size candy bars at Costco and not be judged.  If you do it any other time people think you are eating too much chocolate. And yes, I do. But now I cannot justify bringing home a big ass box of candy bars, damn it.

What are you doing for Halloween?

Saturday Meme Drop

We need to have our bathroom (master) and bedroom painted. We've needed it since we got here. But then I was down for the count for 6 months of chemo and steroids. Then my surgery and Rick's stroke so nothing has been getting done. Everyone says to just chill. C'mon, it's been 2 yrs. now this month.

I called a painter to give me a quote. Rick was not happy. It has cathedral ceilings so I can't do them even on a ladder. He gets pissed because he can't. He is not getting on a ladder no matter what he says for heaven's sake. Then he says dumb things like, "Wait until I can."  Oh, my goodness.
I try to appease his ego but that is just stupid. (I did not say that to him)
I told him we would just get a quote to see.

I got the quote on Friday. It was only $600 for the bedroom. Yes, that is a lot, but we were expecting double. BUT, since calling him for a quote, things have changed. We now must demolish all the stuff that was done in the bathroom. ALL OF IT.  It's a nightmare. I will write about it again when I can without crying.

After the painter left Rick said, "Well that's less than what I expected. I assumed double that. I just hate that I can't do shit anymore"
"I know, I know, but in a year or two you will, it's only been 4 months and 2 weeks. And I too thought it'd be double" He laughed.

Now that we know we can't do this right now because of having to do the bathroom again. We will save up for this. You know, eat rice for a month. LOL. We did explain to the painter why we thought we were ready but now what is going on. He was horrified. Yep, so are we buddy.

I am going to do a few political memes today, with a few others sprinkled in so that I can delete them from my phone. Happy Saturday.

and this guy voted for him

Oldie

Another crazy busy few days so I am posting an oldie that my dog, Izzy wrote.  This was when we were trying to sell our lake house. As you may remember Izzy LOVED Rick and she tolerated me except when she was sick or he wasn't around, or wanted food and attention.

Izzy Takeover

Good Day Bloggers...Izzy the Wonder Dog here.
My human mom is preoccupied with this house sale.
They are driving her crazy with what she is screaming to be piddly shit.
Don't even know what that means but it's making her nuts.
So I am taking over.

Look, I like this woman, she feeds me, spoils me with treats, hugs, and belly rubs and I can get her to do almost anything I want with my pretty face. But she gets on my nerves because she is always taking time with my man away from me. I should get all his attention and love not her.

You see when my man comes home, he is all mine and she doesn't seem to get it.
Look at me in his arms. Ah, just where I am meant to be.
I'm giving her the ha ha he's mine look here.  I love rubbing it in.

Yesterday she came outside with us while he threw the ball for me.
She complained about how cold it was - whine, whine, whine.
So go inside already bitch. I am having fun with my man and you are annoying me and he is giving you attention!  No, this is my time just buzz off.

Then she had the nerve to come to bed last night on my side of the bed. How dare she.
Oh sure, it was her side at one time but not anymore.
Now I take up the whole king-size bed except for where my man sleeps.
She had the nerve to snuggle up with MY man. I took care of that, oh yeah I did.
I poked my nose in between them until that nonsense stopped!
Finally, I could sleep.

This woman appears to be a slow learner because she doesn't give up.
She was all kissy with him this morning in the kitchen.
Geez, get a room, people.  I had to get in between them again until my tail hit my man's bad knee. That will teach him. That made him jump away from her quickly.
And they think I'm "just a dog" hah! I can see them ya know!

I heard them say at 6pm tonight I had an appointment to go to the vet for blood work.
Apparently, my ever-expanding waistline is bothersome to my vet and my mom.
My vet is just another jealous woman.  I'm gorgeous and they are jealous of all the attention I get every day. They don't do they?  No.  See?   It's just jealousy.
I'm really pretty so why the hell can't I be chubby?
Chubby is cute...c'mon look at me, I'm gorgeous.
My coat is shiny and people comment on that all the time.
In fact just yesterday this woman made a fuss over my coat.
No one tells her she is pretty!
Yep just jealousy.
And because they are petty like that I must get stuck with needles.

Those damn bitches think I need to be skinny.
Perhaps it's just their issue at hand, ever think of that?
They put me on terrible-tasting diet food and much less of it for Pete's sake.
Why if I had thumbs I'd be raiding that damn pantry and getting my own food!'

Oh sure, I eat that terrible food but I don't like it! Nope, not one bit.
I can only get 2 treats a day from that woman now and I have to run after balls and sticks for at least an hour a day to even get them. And I walk. What more do they want from me?
How would she like it if she had to do all that stuff to get her ever-beloved coffee every day?
I.don't. think. so!
But that crazy female vet seems to think I have a thyroid issue.
That vet just likes sticking that damn stick up my butt. Perverted sicko she is.
I'll show her and this crazy ass human woman living with me - I will sit and there will be no sticks up my butt today.

I'm standing my ground today....or sitting my ground today.  No sticks up the butt.
I think that is just a damn good rule to live by, don't you?

Got BandAids?

I cut myself badly on Wednesday evening while making dinner.
The blood wouldn't stop. I had paper towels on it and continued but they were filled with blood quickly. So, then I got a finger bandage and got it all wrapped up. It has a heartbeat as I type this.
In fact, I can't use my ring finger on my left hand to type, too painful.
I'm afraid to look at it.
Rick walked into the kitchen and saw all the blood and said, "And you worry about me!"
Well? But Rick takes a blood thinner. I can't have him bleeding.

Then he looked up to the heavens and said, "Hey Doc you are so right, she did it again!" That made me laugh. (Doc has passed away)
You see Doc was my first husband (nickname) and he decided to keep BandAids in our kitchen, so he didn't have to run to the bathroom to get them. Funny boy.

After our divorce I had not seen Doc even once in that small town.
Then my boss Heidi asked me to go to a party she was invited to.
She met this man, and she was smitten, and he told her he was having some people over to his house and asked if she'd like to stop by.
She asked if she could bring someone. So, she asked me.

As we were driving over to the east side by General Electric I had the thought, oh I hope this guy doesn't work at GE because my ex does. Then I thought, nah, there are thousands of people at GE what are the chances he'd know and invite Doc, so I said nothing.

We get to this man's house, and everyone is in his finished basement.
We walk downstairs and he introduces Heidi and me to everyone.
I saw the guys at the pool table and my heart stopped. Shit, it's Doc.
He introduced Heidi and I to Doc and Heidi shook his hand and I played along as did Doc. We shook hands as if we'd never met. Then he smirked and someone said, "you two know each other?"  He had a look of panic and
I quickly said, "We went to high school together actually"
Ahh, is what most said as if that made sense to them. He smiled and nodded as if to say thank you. Whew, neither of us wanted to tell everyone how we knew each other in that scenario.

I stayed at the other end of the room. Thankfully it was a big basement.
At one point Heidi's date asked if I wanted another drink to help myself.
I went behind the bar and saw the gin and he said there are limes there.
I saw them. I then asked if he had a knife so I could cut the lime.
At that very moment Doc yelled across the room "Oh if you give her a knife you better have Band-Aids."
I burst out laughing. He gave me a knife and said, "Do you really need a Band-Aid?"  I told him no and stuck my tongue out at Doc.  We both laughed. Thankfully, no one really said anything to either of us about that.

On the way home Heidi told me that the guy I went to high school with was sure cute, did you ever date him?  I said, "Heidi that was my ex husband"
She pulled over and said, "WHAT? YOU NEVER SAID A THING!"
"See how you're acting? I didn't want that at this party. You all would have been watching where I was or what I was doing every minute as well as watching Doc too.  No, that would have made my night far more miserable. When I saw him, I did want to leave but he stayed at one end, and I stayed at the other and it was all fine."

So today when I cut myself Rick looked to the heavens and told Doc he was so right. Sadly, they both are.

I told Rick my ring finger now has a heartbeat. I wouldn't take off my bandage to look at it. He asked if I thought I needed stitches. I don't know.
I said, "at this point it feels like I'd lose my finger" He laughs.
I said, "hey the way things are going it'd be my luck and it's my ring finger and I waited years for this honkin' diamond and I'm not losing this finger no way no how."
He laughed at me and said, "That's my Margaret"

Yep, that's me, shallow and clumsy. 😀

Fun Day

Well, my tests were fun. I got there at 7:50am. It took me exactly an hour.
I left at 12:38 p.m.  Talk about a long, horrible morning.
This was the most traffic I've seen here, I thought I was back in DC.

First, I got an IV in my arm for the nuclear test. Then they had me sit in the lobby and wait an hour. Then I was taken to a room for the pictures of my heart.  I was to lay on this bed and this machine went around me. It took 30 minutes. I was connected to things, and I was wrapped up like a baby who was swaddled.
I yawned two times. I got yelled at.  Oh, this man was pissed. His face turned red. But I tried to repress it but it didn't work.

Not only did the old curmudgeon yell at me for yawning but then he took me back to the pictures to show me what I had done. So, then he just shamed me. This guy was a peach. I apologized. But you guys I was up at 5 and honestly most of the night so yes, I had no caffeine or water and I'm tired and I yawned. I didn't move my body as he instructed but yawning was bad apparently because it moves your heart. Who knew? He wanted me to see how it moved he kept pointing at it and saying, "See, See what you did?"
JC I'm really very sorry.

I then am taken back to the nuclear dept. for the stress test. They hook me up and put a big square piece of machinery on my abdomen and then wrap me tightly.  At one point I said to the young man, I promise I won't run away. They had me tethered every which way.  He laughed and said, keep that attitude because in a few minutes, you'll be cursing at me. There were 2 female nurses and 1 male nurse We waited 30 minutes for the PA to show up. Ooh, the nurses were pissed.

Once the PA arrived, I got on the treadmill with all the cords and my right arm with a blood pressure cuff. They made me move up closer to the handles of the treadmill. I was not to let go of the handles until my blood pressure cuff began to go off then drop my right arm down by my side.

The PA was constantly harping at me. "Take longer strides," she yelled.
The male nurse said, "Do you see the length of her legs?"
But I tried and I took long exaggerated steps as best I could and then she told me to go back to my normal walk. I saw the nurses roll their eyes at her. I was glad to see that because I thought it was just me.  Then as the incline was getting much steeper and it was going much faster the PA would yell, "Are you okay? Can you do this?"
I wanted to yell back, "I'm doing it aren't I?"  But I just told her I was fine.
Then she'd say, "Are you sure?"  At this point, I politely say, "I'm positive if this gets to be too much, I'll let you know please stop asking me that"
The male nurse who was on my right side holding the treadmill patted my arm. I knew he thought that was okay. I mean honestly if you thought I'd die walking fast on an incline why are you doing this to me?

They wanted my heart rate to get to 137. It did and then it slowed down and the incline went down slowly. I didn't find it difficult at all. Oh, my thighs were beginning to burn a bit towards the end, but it wasn't difficult, and I didn't breathe heavily or any of the things that damn PA was yelling at me.
It was a small room I don't know why she was yelling. Perhaps she thought I was deaf. Perhaps she was just an idiot. I don't know. After it was done, I had to wait an hour. I was allowed to eat and drink anything now along with taking my morning meds. I grabbed a coffee, and I ate a half sandwich of a PB&J that I brought from home. They told me they had food for me, but it was nothing I could eat so I knew to bring my own food.

Then I had to go sit for 30 minutes. Then I had an ECHO. Easy peasy by a ridiculously cute young thing named Joshua. Sure now when they are flopping my breasts around I get this cute young thang. Why not the military PA now?

After the easy ECHO with the cutie patootie, I had to redo my pix because I yawned. I got in and he started on me. I was biting my tongue. I had to put my arms over my head and back as far as I could. I said, "Ah, it's much easier this time without an IV in my arm pinching me."
He said, "I swim so I am in great shape so I can do this easily."
He has to show me, gee thanks.
As if my not being in shape was the reason my IV was pinching me for 30 minutes.
I responded with a smile and said, "Good for you, this will be easy when you have this done then."  He huffed.

He was passive-aggressive and snarky, and I just didn't like him.
I dozed off the 2nd time of pictures and I wasn't supposed to fall asleep.
Honestly, I didn't mean to. He came over and pushed on my shoulder roughly and said, "Hey we're done, and you weren't to fall asleep."
I told him you told me to not take deep breaths, not to yawn so falling asleep was my best bet. I'm joking, I am seriously sorry, I really didn't do that on purpose. I'm tired and I'm lying down. It just happened.

Oh, he was mad. He said if you moved, we'd have to do this again.
He went to look at the pictures and came back and said, "You're lucky they are fine"
Good, was all I said.
The damn prick. "I'm in great shape...blah blah blah"
Good for you, you're still a homely twit.
Gee, I'm not bitter, am I? 😉

I was finally let loose to come home. Thankfully the traffic at 12:40p was easier and I made it home in 30 minutes.

That was a fun day!

Stop Bringin' Em On

The hits just keep on coming.

The plumber came back today now that everything was dry to see if there were any leaks.
Yep, right through the tile floor. So now the tile has to be ripped up and done properly.  Good news, if you can call it that, but I'm trying here - I didn't love the tile floor but we had to move forward and it's what I got.
But it was done incorrectly.
The Bad news is, it must be done again and that is money we do not have. It may just sit for years like this, but I know it can't. Poor Rick.
And the nerve of the contractor calling me again today.
I did not answer and will not answer. When all this shit is done it will cost me what I owed him and probably even more. !@#$%^!  He is not getting another dime outta me!
__________
Tuesday at 8am I must be at the Cary WakeMed Hospital. Cary is not close to me so I will be leaving around 7am or a tad bit before. I am having a nuclear stress test and then an ECHO cardiogram. I keep telling everyone it's just stress. No one believes me. I am not to eat or drink anything after midnight. I don't have time to be ill or die! So this better be no big deal.

I must wear comfortable clothes and no bras with wires.
YIPEE, a reason to be in public in a sports bra.
The hospital called me to go over all the items and told me how long it would be. 3-4 hrs. Jeez.
She said they will feed me but I can't eat any of that food so I will bring something to eat. I asked why I had to eat at all before I get home and she told me some mumbo jumbo that they wanted me to have food before the next round of tests.
I don't get it, but I will do as I'm told. There is a lot of sitting around while waiting for pictures or some such thing.

Cary NC is another 'burb of Raleigh. When I moved here, I was told repeatedly that it stood for Containment Area of Relocated Yankees.
Asses.  I am not Cary's biggest fan, but I do have to go there from time to time. Like tomorrow.
___________
Have any of you been watching men's and women's gymnastics?  Wow.  Our men are good, but our women are kickin' butt. Simone Biles is so good it's like she's a unicorn. I'd die for her legs. I know I've said it here before, but she has great legs! A bit shorter than mine but if they looked like that, I'd be simply fine with it.

And lastly, a few of you said you knew about that 3 ingredient PB cookie.
I am going to try it with a tad less sugar. Has anyone tried that? I'm worried it may throw the whole thing off but to me, it's a lot of sugar. I know those aren't words I normally use. What the hell has gotten into me?

I will leave you with a recipe I got in high school home ec.
The first time I made it living with Rick he screamed when I added the hot tap water over the entire batter "Margaret, do you know what the hell are you doing?"  I laughed and said I don't know; we'll have to see.
He shook his head. Knowing I don't cook he assumed I couldn't bake either.

Oh, it turned out and he loved it. It was what I called my PMS cake, not to be confused with Peggy Malizia Syndrome as Rick called PMS, but the real thing when you just need chocolate in any form. When I lived with my sister our cycles synchronized. We would make this for dinner and sit it between us on the sofa and eat Hot Fudge Cake while watching a movie and crying. We did not eat food, just cake and fudge. We did not bother putting this on ice cream as you are supposed to  - no way. We just grabbed utensils and dug in. I no longer have PMS, but I still love this little recipe. When my friend was visiting with her young kids, I made this. All ages love Hot Fudge Cake.

I'll let you try, and you can tell me.
This is 50 years old. I got it in Home Ec in 1973.
So, it's probably even older than that.

Hot Fudge Cake.
Mix all of this in your 8x8 pan. (Brownie pan)
1 cup of flour
3/4 cup of sugar
2TBSP cocoa (Dutch cocoa if you have it, but Hershey's works)
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 t salt.
Mix all of this with a fork in your 8x8 pan.

Then add to the above mixture 1/2 cup milk, 2 TBSP oil, 1 tsp vanilla
Spread evenly in the pan.
Sprinkle the top of this batter with 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa and pour 1 3/4 cup of HOT tap water over the entire thing - DO NOT MIX.

Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.

The cake is baked and rises to the top and the hot fudge is on the bottom.
A piece of this and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Mmm, it is da bomb.

Rick has had a sweet tooth since his stroke, and he's been asking for all kinds of sweets of late. And he's still losing weight. How does that happen to everyone but me? I gain weight from inhaling my spit, I swear.

Cookies

Okay, this is dangerous.

Rick asked if I felt like making peanut butter cookies. No, I don't, I quickly responded.
I have 2 hrs to do whatever I want and that's not it.

Then I felt guilty, that damn Italian Catholic guilt I was raised with gets me to cave every time.
Then I remembered that I had a 3 ingredient recipe.

So I whipped them up. They don't make a lot but perfect for us. I think it made 15, but not certain, Rick was eating them up.

Because there is no flour I can eat them too. Yummy.

Try 'em, you won't be disappointed when you just gotta have a cookie.
1 cup of peanut butter
1 cup of sugar
1 egg
Beat. Make 1 inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
I dip my fork in sugar and make the criss cross pattern. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Enjoy!!

I know if you make them, you'll curse me. So quick and easy and pretty darn good. You may be in a sugar coma, but what the hell!

Some Random Items Rolling In My Head

It has not been mine or Rick's best year by a long shot.
No one showed up knocking on our doors Thursday to install a shower door so that was good. This guy. 'David' who wrote to me to STOP texted (it sounds like it should be just 'text' to me, but it keeps correcting me) me the other day as I mentioned on a different number but the same Charlotte area code. So, my text to him saying what the attorney suggested we text went to both numbers.
Rick asked me again today if I did that. YES. I did it. I CYA'd myself.
Rick is as paranoid about these idiots as I am. And he feels so helpless and keeps saying if I were not in this shape, they wouldn't fuck with me. I sort of understand him, but I think they still would have.
Rick used to be a big, tall scary figure if you didn't know he was a big, tall teddy bear.
Not so much anymore.

We wanted it texted to both numbers so he couldn't say he didn't get it.
After 'David' tells me to stop he sends from another number thinking I may be too stupid and had forgotten he told me to STOP. Perhaps assuming I wouldn't see the text trail and I'd have forgotten or some such rubbish. Gosh, this makes me hate people even more.

In other news...
Rick packed up a shit ton of fishing lures and fishing accessories shall we say.
He has so many fishing things. Tackle boxes and boxes of lures and things I have no idea what they are for except for fishing. His buddy, Denny, in central PA, is an avid fisherman and we sent a big box of these things up to him. Denny texted Rick today and was so excited. One lure that they use for some big fish had teeth marks on it and Denny said, "it makes my hands shake."  Denny was so excited and appreciative, and he wanted Rick to know his grapes came in and that he would send us some of his wine. He makes good wine. Sadly, Rick doesn't drink anymore...but I do!
________
I met a woman while waiting for Rick at rehab. I really liked her. A bit older than me. She is from New Hampshire and struggling here. Oh, I understand. We are meeting on Saturday for coffee at Java Joes.  Rick is okay for me to leave for a couple hours. He will probably watch a terrible movie with no dialogue, just grunting sounds as he does when I leave.
We call them Testosterone Movies.

I'll be sure he has his meds and eaten his breakfast and he will be fine. Well and helping him get a shirt on. He can't lift his arm for 4 weeks and getting a shirt on isn't as easy for him as you'd think. It's made us giggle a few times. We had a laugh the other day, he was trying, and I was holding it where I thought it would help and then we both realized it's on inside out. Oh, my goodness it made us laugh. I think we were both so exhausted it was just damn funny. He said, how about if I just walk around naked?
I told him that was fine, but it wasn't Naked Tuesday.  Oh yeah, he says.  They shaved his chest and underarms when he got his pacemaker and clothes rubbing on the nubs are driving him crazy.  I said you either deal with it or shave it again. Nope, he is trying to deal with it. He asked if my underarms or legs got itchy when growing in. Nope, don't go that long between shaves. But back in the day (70s) before all the waxing places women shaved their nether regions - that's fun when you let it come in in winter.  Not polite to scratch in public. He thought that it was funny picturing me scratching myself in public. Nope never happened Stroke Boy.
________
I happen to love Rom-Com's. But not all. While you know how a rom-com will end it's how they get there that is the fun. A good Rom-Com to me is When Harry Met Sally or several Katherine Hepburn, and Spencer Tracey movies like Adams Rib. Those 2 are my all-time favorites. I like those kinds, not the Hallmark dribble.
I saw that Meg Ryan is in a new movie with David Duchovny and it looked good to me. But we don't do movie theatres so until it's on a streaming service we won't get to see it.  This one is an adult rom-com. People over 60, kind of thing.
Both actors are and you can see that and it's refreshing, well to me anyway.

Latests Update

No sooner had I posted the previous post, guess who called me?
I had just parked the car and was meeting Rick inside the doctor's office.
He was to have his 'wound' as they refer to it checked. Take off the bandages we were not allowed to remove.

The contractor said they wanted to come to install the shower door. I said I was at the hospital and would talk to him later and hung up.  I immediately called the attorney. Yeah, another bill.

The attorney told me to text him the following. (I added a couple things like what is in ()
'Given your prior text message on Sept 22nd telling me to stop and the lack of communication since then, it was obvious that you had stopped work and abandoned the project. Accordingly, we are working with other contractors to complete the work you left unfinished and repair any work that was negligently performed (plumbing, no P trap etc.) that is a cost we have to bear now. Also, the marble tile arrived after the shower door. Marble which we paid for, and you installed the cheaper porcelain. We sent the tile back. What credits will you be giving us for the replacement tile, and when can we expect a check for that?

I did send and heard nothing so far, but they did show up.

We got home around 2pm and about 10 minutes later they showed up.
We feared they would.  Thankfully, we were inside.
We also changed the back door lock just in case because they knew where the key was and if they made a copy, we wanted to be safe.
So, our house was locked up and the drapes closed. They pounded on doors, they went to windows and pounded, and I would bet they peered in.
We did not answer but they sat in our driveway for 40 minutes.
They finally left.

Because we have ring cameras around our home, we could watch them.
They tried to get in the garage, but it was locked up too.
They may try again tomorrow, and I will just open the door and say they can call our attorney and give them his card.  I am done.
I can't afford this attorney bill, but I can't afford this ya-hoo either. It sucks big time. To be honest, this stresses me out big time and I don't need more stress.

I don't want any money for the tile - I just want him to go away.
The new plumber is coming on Friday to fix this nightmare. He is going to report him because I told him I just can't. So, if it is questioned the new plumber will have to address it all. Whew.

And if that wasn't enough Rick looked like he popped a stitch, and it was very red so now he is on antibiotics. Honest to god. I am so done with all this. I am tired, weary, and can easily cry at the drop of a hat.
But I can't. I must plow on. I hate being strong all the damn time. It's been my M.O. since my mom was sick from age 10 - 13.  I want to whine and stomp my feet and say, I don't wanna do this anymore.
Then I remember what Rick is going through and I can't be so damn selfish. He has it far worse than me.
So, I wear my Peggy face. I'm fine.  I'm just fine.

Construction Attorney

I mentioned a while back, a long while back at this point, that we needed to get the master big tub out and give Rick a walk-in shower.
While our long-term care insurance would give us some money for home modification, we started the process. Knowing it was a small pittance compared to the actual cost, it was ever so helpful, nonetheless.

In July we called a few contractors - 6 to be exact. 2 showed up.
I did not like the first guy. He was full of himself and kept trying to talk us into those panels that look plastic to us and like tile. Rick's job before retirement told him that was not a good idea, because just like the company bathfitters, water gets behind them over time and there is always a very big mold issue. We wanted tile.

We talked to the 2nd guy and he said all the right things. We asked for a copy of his license, and he said he would bring it by when they begin. But in the state of North Hillbilly, I mean North Carolina, one doesn't need a contractor license if the job is under 30K. (a car inspection doesn't include brakes either, how wildly stupid is that?!)

He did not have tiles with him or take us to a showroom to pick out tiles. Instead, this was on his tablet. I asked if he wanted to write it down, I handed him paper and pen. He laughed, like I was a fool, and told me he'd remember.

They did not show up on the 8th of August as they were supposed to.
By noon I called Yani, the project manager, and he said they would be there eventually. They showed up in the afternoon to begin the demo.

All the supplies were delivered to our home and put in our garage.  When they brought in the tile, I saw it and told them to stop. Which I have learned in Spanish it's 'detener.' Since no one spoke English, this was fun. The lead man, Meto, spoke English, but not well and he would sometimes drop his men off, so I was with men who only smiled at me. Frustrating as hell.

Thankfully Meto was here that day. I said, "Meto, that is blue tile and we picked out white marble with gray veining. The flooring was porcelain basket weave white and a light gray. You are to use unsanded grout that is light grey."
This floor tile is rough and a gray-blue. It's not what we wanted or ordered.
He called Yani. They discuss. Yani called me and said, "You ordered blue."  He said this as if I was mentally challenged. I said, "Yani I would NEVER choose blue because it will look dated over time. I chose white with gray veining. Remember it was large oblong/rectangular tiles with points on both ends."  He tells me I am mistaken but he will get new tile for me if I insist.
I insist.

He then calls me from a tile store showing me videos on his phone. I said, these are close, but they are porcelain. If we go this route to move this along, then I want my bill total to reflect the cheaper tile. He promises me it would indeed. I should have known better.

They begin. These guys would show up at 7:30a, sometimes 11am, who knew. Such fun for us right? They built a bench. I made peanut butter cookies that day and brought them into the bathroom for them. Then I saw the bench. It was so high I'd have to jump to get on it. I say this to them. They smile. I have Meto's number so I text him. Then I hear their phone ring and apparently he told them to stop until he returns. They sat and ate cookies.

Meto shows up and I show him the issue. While waiting for him Rick and I googled the correct height for a shower bench. It should be 17 to 19 inches maximum.  I asked Meto if they could please put it down to 17 inches. He asked why this bothered me. I wanted to scream BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I WANT JUST DO IT DAMN IT.  But, I did not. I said, "allow me to show you, I jumped to get my butt on it. I said that if I were wet that is dangerous and #2 is this - I lifted my left to show him me shaving my legs and how high it was. He laughed and said, "Oh I get it now" The men were not at all happy they had to tear it out and lower it 8 inches but too bad.

I'll leave a bunch out and jump to the tile work is completed and I see that there is a big square on the floor that is yellow. I show Meto. He says he can fix it and not have to call the tile guy. He gets the tile from the garage and comes out and says it's done. Rick and I go in and it's the wrong color grout. How does he not see that it is dark gray, almost black looking when the rest of the floor is very light gray. Rick tells him he can't live with that. I'm not happy but we can regrout it later was my thought. Rick is upset that this job was 24k and nothing is done correctly.

The next day they installed the frameless shower door. It is 2 ft too short. Yani measured it. What an idiot. So, they removed it and leave some nice holes in the new shower tile. The shower was complete just waiting on the door. (minus the wrong grout color in the middle of the floor) The 2nd shower door arrives and it's brushed nickel.  No, the bathroom is all chrome. I paid for chrome, and I wanted chrome as did Rick. They ordered a 3rd door.

At this point it's Sept. I am so angry, but I continue to be nice and not a Karen, so they do their job and don't screw us. Meto called Yani and they are going at it on the phone. Next thing I know a guy named David calls and claims he is the owner. (online it's an Arabic name, perhaps David is his American name)

I tell David that we are most unhappy, Yani has done nothing but lie to us. He tells us communication is of the utmost importance, yet we can never reach him. He tells us he never got the call or text, or he was in a meeting, or his phone died. Always an excuse. I told him I did not want that man in my house again. David says I will make this right. I will reorder the door myself. He made a big deal of making this right and wanting us to be happy. I didn't believe him but went along hoping I was wrong.

Then he texted me to ask what kind of door. OH MY GOD.
I said frameless in chrome, and I said I have a picture of one from my previous home, something like that. I sent him the photo.
I then told him I would text him the punch list. (if you don't know what that is it is everything that they have yet to finish to be completed)
It stated in the contract that if they didn't receive one, we couldn't come back later and say it wasn't done.
David states that when the door arrives, he will come out to the house with the men as they install and go over all the issues and punch list.
He told me to text him when it arrived.

It arrived on Sept 22. I text him and he text back - STOP.
Just to be sure I text back, stop what?
Never heard from him again.

Now we are ghosted with the bathroom not being done.  In the mean time while waiting on the door Rick tells me every time he is in the bedroom and I flush the hall toilet he can hear water in the shower. He is convinced they did not use a P-trap. Yeah, I don't know what that is either.
Rick insists on getting into the crawl space under the house to take photos and to see this for himself. The man could barely walk a block, his heart rate was 30 and he was gray. I did not wish for him to be in the crawl space, but the stubborn ass goes outside, and I followed. I told him I was holding his ankles and he laughed. I know the woman across the street must be wondering what the hell that was about.  I'm sure it looked funny.

Rick got some good pics. We then call a plumber. The one we use in the neighborhood couldn't get to us as fast as we wanted to, so we called another. So that was more money put out for us. $110 for the estimate, photos, etc. Rick was indeed correct, no P trap, one pipe was too small into the correct size pipe, and one pipe was not in properly and it was escaping fumes. You know septic fumes which can be toxic.
There were more things incorrect as well. We saw all the photos.
The plumber said this could not have been done by a licensed plumber and asked if there were permits pulled. We assumed so because it was discussed before the contract was signed.

To fix all this would be $1,037 and change. $200 just for the permit. Great.

After the contractor told us to stop, we thought well we will just move along and finish this on our dime. Pissed but for the love of God Rick needs this and it's been since July that this was signed, and this is crazy.

The more we talked about this and read and reread the contract we had a fear that this company would put a lien on our home. We paid 18K and we owed money for the final payment. But if he subtracted the amount difference from the marble to the porcelain we'd be even or better.
Finally, we decided it was worth the pain in the ass to see an attorney. We found only 2 attorneys who deal with construction law. We called them both. 1 called us back.  The other just called us yesterday. Too late lady.

The firm was in Garner where we live. We were happy about that. After speaking to the person she said the person who would handle this is in Smithfield. Oh no! was our first thought.

As we were driving to Smithfield for our appointment we were laughing and saying judgmental things like, Oh God I hope this isn't Matlock or worse. (Smithfield is a Podunk town far south of Raleigh of 11K people)
We did not have much hope. We were bringing all the color pictures from the plumber and our photos of what was done incorrectly, the contract, the list of things that they did not do, and what was done incorrectly.

Thankfully, we were just bad people being judgmental because he was great. Mr. W., we will call him, was young, he stated 39 at one point in our conversation. He did not have an accent so we could understand him, which we were thrilled about. He was so very helpful.
He explained things so we could understand. He answered all our questions and then some.  He asked to read all my texts to Yani and David. He told me I was nice and nicer than he'd have been. But all of that was in our favor so he was happy to see that I was so nice. (I'm not)
The bottom line is that it is best to let it go.
The company has 120 days to put a lien on our home for the last payment we did not make. 120 days from our last contact (the text telling me to stop) However, the attorney said they would be foolish to do so because what you owe is about what they owe you in the difference in marble to porcelain. The money to get the work done, the plumber, the door installed, and the baseboard and the quarter round wouldn't be enough to fight this. (about 3K) Better to let it go he said. To fight it his retainer is 5K.  @#$%!

Now if they do put a lien on our home, they have to procure (sp?) it.
He said that in his experience and his firms, this has never happened.
With our friggin' luck, it would but we are going to go with it won't and be optimistic even though we have no reason to be. LOL

So, I called the plumber to schedule the job. The owner tells me without going to the county inspector and filing a complaint stating they were unlicensed; he can't do the job. I said I don't think I can do that. I called the county inspector; I asked if the company would know it was us. He told me that they would indeed know it was us by the address. Our names would not be used. I then called the attorney and asked his thoughts on this. Rick and I felt we shouldn't do that until our 120 days are up. The attorney called back and said, "No, don't do that. I assume the plumber won't do it for liability reasons, but then find another plumber."
Oh, for Pete's Sake.

So now we must begin looking for a new plumber. Will this bathroom ever be done?
I'm leaving a lot out. Hard to imagine right?
Like the stress we are under isn't enough.

I would love to leave some reviews on this company but again the attorney says not to until my 120 days are completed. Why poke the bear?

Are we having fun yet?
Oh, oh, get this. That gorgeous marble tile showed up on the 23rd of September after we were told to stop. We had them send it back in fear that he would charge us. We were tempted to keep it and sell it. It is so gorgeous, and Rick kept saying, let's keep it. I reminded him that he could charge us do we really wish to go through that?  We kept one piece in case we needed to show them, or an attorney and the man took it away.

I live!

I so wanted to have the name changed here on the blog by now.
Life has just thrown me a big curve.

It happened again. If the pacemaker surgery wasn't bad enough each time, they open Rick up he gets gout.
Before you all tell me what he can't eat - WE KNOW and he doesn't.

So, after all this, he can now take a deep breath but can't walk and is in a lot of pain. His knee and left foot.  Great.

Then I'm reading where opioids will also cause this or encourage it as it was written. Lucky guy. So, we stopped the opioids immediately.

I immediately began the medication one takes once you get it. He takes something daily to prevent it, but we all see how well that works. He couldn't walk. He then could use his walker, then his walking stick.  Now he is back to normal. Honest to God, make this black cloud over our head go away - far far away. STAT

Tomorrow, we return to the pacemaker doctor, Dr. M. He will remove the bandages and make sure all is well. Rick just wants all this over with and who can blame the guy.

His ablation is October 30th. That one scares me. I think he will have to overnight for that surgery. And Rick's unbelievably bad wife isn't upset about it. He will be in good hands at the hospital, and she can sleep through the night and not worry about each move he makes, each time he gets up to pee, etc.
I swear I have only slept 10 hours since May 22nd.

A-Fib caused the stroke. Yet he has to be off his A-fib meds for 2 weeks. I told the PA that scared me. She said if he isn't in A-fib, the doctor can't see where he must scar the tissue. Great. I get that, but it's still scary to me.

I would like to address a question that popped up in the comments a few times.
A good one and one I asked as well.
I asked the nurse who was going over things you can and can't do after getting a pacemaker if he could use a microwave. A snarky old nurse said, "It's fine, it's not the 20th century anymore." To which I responded that there was no reason to be snarky, just wanted to be sure we didn't kill my husband. She didn't smile. Thankfully, we only saw her once. Every other nurse, PA, and doctor was awesome!

The rules that upset Rick are the tool rules. Gas and electric chainsaws are both a no-no. I don't understand why, but he will have to do what he is told.
But you see if he ever gets back to his workshop, using a chainsaw is of the utmost importance to chop wood. But because of some of the tools he can no longer use he will be selling the big lawnmower. We decided to wait until spring to do that, you know when people want to get a new mower. I think he needs to not even worry about that shit because it's far into the future anyway, but it bugs him.

We have an extensive list of questions for tomorrow. On the day of the surgery, we saw the company that makes the pacemaker and then that fun snarky nurse. Everyone was throwing info at us for the many hours we were there. But now that things have calmed down a bit, (HA) we have a list of questions that the doctor can address tomorrow.

And just wait until I fill you in on the Ahole construction company that never finished our bathroom but just ghosted us. We had to get an attorney.
More on that tomorrow.
