Human Experience?

My sister informed me that since having children her mind has turned to mush, she can no longer go out without a bra and she can start a fire if she wear corduroys.

I thought about all of that for a minute. Then I explained to her that I have never had children and that I found that my mind had turned to mush too several years ago.
I've never been able to go out without a bra and I could at least make sparks if I were to wear corduroys. Her sweet sisterly response was Fuck You!

So that got me thinking.
What else does she claim is because she has kids but isn't true?
She says her house is no longer her own.
Neither is her schedule
She tells me that she can't have nice things anymore.

I get why she thinks it's her kids but I don't have them and I have the same issues.
Is a dog (or hubby) really that much like a kid?
I know most moms would kill me for jumping to that conclusion so you don't need to write me a scathing comment.  I am not implying that your little Johnny or Sally is anything like a dog. Just trying to think why we have the same issues yet she claims I couldn't possible since I don't have children.

So tell me moms....Why do we both have the same issues yet we don't have the same lives?
I find this all curious. And she gets so mad when I say that I am experiencing the same things. (believe me I won't do that again!)
She thinks I am most certainly not experiencing the same thing I am childless!!!
We have the same issues and we are 10 years apart in age.
We have the same issues and we live on opposite coasts.
Hell we have the same issues and we don't even have the same mom.

I think it is  just the human experience.
Apparently she knows otherwise.

....and your thoughts?

I don't think I articulated this well. What I was trying to say here  is that these things will happen whether you have kids or not. But apparently my sister thinks all these things only happen to those with children. The rest of us do not age, have any problems what so ever or gain any weight.

BIG difference between kids and dogs, you can put the dog in a cage and go on with your life, can't do that with your kids. Well you can do that with your kids and hope that no one finds out..... But can't say much for either side since it's been 27 years since I've not had some being who came from my body living with me...

my kids are worse than my pets. my kids can be like barn animals. as for husbands, yeah they're gross.

The kids eventually grow up and leave, so what excuses do we have then?

Linda - yep that was my point. Thanks for getting that.

I do think that a hubby and a dog CAN be like kids.
And perhaps ageing and responsibilities in whatever form, make us pissed off in the long run, does make sense?

i used to have this friend. key words "used to"- and she thought that she ought to get a lot of bonuses in life on account of having had kids, like she'd done something really special for the world and that the sacrifices she'd made (and she'd made some) ought to be appreciated by the world in general.

i think also one f the things that goes on is that people who have kids like to think that if they didn't have kids their lives would be much more glamorous or that they'd be so much better than the rest of us poor slobs and it just kills them to realize that probably they'd be just the same: older and fatter than they used to be, and they probably still won't have set the world on fire even without the kids to blame it on.

their kids will appreciate it if they'd come to grips with it, though.

flask - how I love you let me count the ways! You got exactly what I was saying, even though I didn't articulate it well.
thx.

Okay then, ask Sister why people always say that kids keep you young? What's up with that? In that case she should be the one with absolutely no problems and perky boobs. And by the way, from a woman with 5 kids — hells Y E S. Husbands and dogs are just like kids but more so. Especially husbands. Bigger and not as cute. You have your hands just as full and you can tell her I said so!

I'm in your court on this one, although I gotta say kids can ratchet up the stress level a bit if you are a worrier. speaking for myself here.

It is my "motherly" experience that it is all a matter of priorities and perspective.

If your perspective is such that your life/body/mind is different due to having children, then any changes or experiences you have will be the result of motherhood.

Life is life is life is life.

However! My breasts would still be a perky C cup instead of DDD cup if I hadn't had children. I totally blame breastfeeding on that.
