I must admit I found it fascinating that you all thought we were too nice or that we did too much. So I ask you this; if you'd paid 6K to have your cabinets refinished and it was the wrong color what would you do? Would you be able to suck it up and have it bother you forever? Would you ask to have it done again per your signed contract? Who cares who's fault it is, the contract states the color Snowbound and that's what you paid for. I honestly think I'd do the same things as they did. I would hope I would behave better than the female at this home and more like her husband. We hated having to do it again 100% but we felt we had to.
I know I'd be upset but I also know me and I would have noticed it FAR sooner because I am anal retentive. But I also know I would have been nicer. I do think Rick's solution was the correct one.
In other updates -
He wrote an email to the chemical coating company.
The company we buy our cabinet coating from is just one of their U.S. Distributors. (the one that services our area of the U.S.)
We felt they needed to know who is representing them. Rick wrote a very nice letter explaining the issues as well as his displeasure that we were treated like this. He explained that we understand mistakes happen, we are all human, but it is how you resolve them that speaks volumes about your company and your integrity.
Well, that did it apparently. Rick received an email with an apology and credit for 2 free gallons of coating in the color of our choice. We just must order the freebies through them instead of the distributor for the freebie. We imagine that this company will reach out to the distributor to discuss this. Because we did not point fingers per se at the person who took the order or anything like that, but that we were just upset that the service wasn't what we hoped for.
So there is that good new.
Need to leave it here for now - not functioning on all cylinders today.
Here are a few memes that caught my eye this past week.

Some of those memes hit home with a bang! Hope you are feeling better, I've had the epidural injection for pain, it didn't work for me, hope it works for you.
You clearly did the right thing regarding the cabinet work, but like you say, the customer woman should have handled it better.
I think its easier being old in some ways. For one thing, I don't worry so much about what people think of me, and I don't worry so much about the future since that's getting smaller all the time!
Grace, it has in the past, not so sure this time. Today a bad day. I've had 4 back surgeries. This pain gets very old and honestly the pain is exhausting.
Abby, agreed with all you've said. I like when great minds think alike.
I am glad Rick made an impression with his email and that the distributor will hear from the company. Too bad you didn't get the 2 free gallons when he had to do the redo.
The memes are funny and I laughed out loud at the one about Canada. Pretty accurate.
Sure was hoping that shot would bring you more relief.
2 free gallons of coating? How about 10? Without going back and reading your original post, wasn't it the coating company that screwed it up? They should have picked up your labor costs too.
I had a new roof put on two years ago. I got a call from the roofing company 6 months later. The manufacturer had a failed batch of sealant on the shingles. The manufacturer supplied all new shingles and paid for the whole job to reroof my house.
Mike, he asked for what he got. The coating company is Italian. They have u.s. distributors like the one who screwed up our order. We did not ask for anything more than the expensive coating. We really wanted reimbursed for that.So next kitchen will be free coating and more profit. In this industry that is good enough. As for your roof, very different. If the manufacturer of said coating told us the product we used was faulty then they would have paid us the full amount and we'd have to do it again. Even tho no fault of our own. Hope that makes sense.
Patti, 59% better. Takes up to 10 days🤞
Patti...thats funny..59%..fat fingers on phone. I meant 50%. I can walk today.alls good.
I'm glad they responded! Hope you are feeling better today!
The one meme about just saying everything you want is nice in theory but people that I know that do that have no friends lol
Julie, I think it could be all in how you say it too. I mean I would never say anything mean but when people ask me in my family I always say, do you really want my opinion if it's different? They always say - Nope So then I don't have to say anything more. :-) My family is the worst!
I can unfortunately tell you from personal experience that many contractors have NO problem refusing to fix things that are totally their fault. Our worst experience was with a $9000 custom sliding door. We had paid one third when they ordered it and owed the rest on installation. They showed up, ripped out our old door and when they brought the new door up on our deck, it opened the wrong direction. We told them immediately, showed them the paperwork and assumed they would temporarily install the wrong one and reorder the correct one. But the owner balked, told us it was the fault of an employee who was fired and said if he lied to us, it wasn't the company's fault. We went back and forth for months. They flatly refused to get us the correct door and the installers didn't bother to weatherproof or trim out what we thought would be a temporary door. Finally, in exasperation, we threatened to sue. We've never sued anyone and didn't want to sue these jerks so we proposed in exchange for not suing them, they accept our down payment as the total payment and come back to trim out the door. They finally agreed and we were just glad to have a working door after almost six months of wrangling. I even complained to the manufacturer (Andersen) and got no help. We kept the door for about 3 years (it looked ok, but was incredibly inconvenient to use.) and finally found a reputable guy who got us the door we wanted and installed it correctly and the best part was it was way cheaper and better looking than the Andersen door.
So to your point, there are dozens, maybe thousands of horrible, unscrupulous, indifferent, careless and non consumer friendly contractors who couldn't care less whether the customer is happy. Sadly for us, this wasn't our only experience with this type of contractor. Your approach to business may seem obvious to you, but it's not necessarily the norm of the industry.
