One Day At A Time

Surgery was Thursday, January 11th on my fur baby.

She had a partial tear and we decided to fix it before she was fully torn as she was the last time. She was able to put weight on it but only sometimes. We were in the 3 legged hop stage with a toe tap. (Not near as bad as last time with not putting the leg down or straight at all).

We decided to not let it get as far as the first time because we were just postponing the inevitable since we have the dog insurance to pay for it. Besides, we knew it caused her pain and why would we allow her to be in pain all the time? The worst part is walking her back to what I call a cage. It is huge and she has never been crated so it seemed like a punishment to her. She looks at us through the bars as if to say, Why are you doing this to me and leaving?
Kills us each time.

Now the fun part. She can't climb our steps. So she can't sleep with us.
Last time we went upstairs to bed she was downstairs alone and she cried.
I went back downstairs immediately and I slept on the sofa while she was in her bed next to me. I did that if you remember for 4 weeks. Oh boy.
She wakes up and makes sure I'm there, I tell her I am here and touch her and she falls back to sleep.
Rick gets weekends. Since I work from home I feel I should. He has to have a good nights sleep to get up and do physical labor.

She had a big lump (lipoma) on her inside left leg that was aspirated.
She has a lot of these lumps on her which are typical of labs and goldens. However, this one didn't move as the others do and when they are stationary they are concerned they may be cancer so they want to go in to see. It wasn't cancer thank goodness. It was just another lady bump as we have begun calling them. Whew.

This below is her after I got her home. The blue thing she is laying on is a sling to lift her hindquarters so she doesn't put that foot down to go out to pee or poo. Everyone who saw this said it looked as though she had a leg amputated. Thankfully not. She is just laying on that other leg.

My neighbor got her in the house for me because Rick was working.
She was behaving like a drunk toddler from all these drugs. I got her out of the car. There she stood. She wouldn't walk or do anything. I could not get her to move her front paws as I have her back in a sling. I attempted to pick her up but sure couldn't do it. I was outside for a full 20 minutes and about to have a serious cry/meltdown when my neighbor saw me outside because he was working from home. Thank goodness for my nice neighbors.

He came out and asked if I needed help. I said I sure did. He picked up Izzy like she only weighed 5lbs, not 73lbs. He lifted her and put her down here in this photo. I told him it was like Officer and a Gentleman the way he whisked her up and saved the day.

When she torn her other leg's ACL we drove her to her pee and poo spots and then got her out of the car for the first couple of days. It was the only way. This is when I wish we had a yard or a patch of grass. But we don't so we do whatever we have to do for her.

Here is the positive take away on the day of surgery. I did not have to walk the dog and I didn't have to wear a bra all day while working. It was nirvana.  That is when working from home is glorious. 😀

Poor thing, but won't life be grand when she's recuperated!
You made me laugh in that last paragraph....my sister has been working from home for about a year now, and loves it, although she admitted she had to cut down on her spending. I don't find myself jealous of her as she had one hell of a commute for over 10 years. It was a freak accident (big rig drove over a piece of plywood on the road and it flew into her windshield) that pushed her to make the decision.

It's - OMG that is horrible. Hopefully, she did not get hurt and she is just fine. I have never had a commute while living here in the DMV. I worked in Manhattan and worked from home the other days I wasn't in the city visiting clients. So I had it made. I know what traffic is like here. 12 miles is at least 1 hr. That used to be my husband's old commute. 12 miles from door to door took 1 - 1.5 hours. Pitiful. We spend way too much time in a car instead of living our life!

It's - btw, how did that affect her spending? You lost me on that one? Online shopping? sorry

I hope she is feeling a lot better fast. Amazing how they get into your heart and how important they are, isn't it?

Thank goodness for good neighbors!! So glad you had someone to help you!

I used to drive about an hour and a half a day for my job, split shift, so had to drive back and forth and back and forth. The only downside to the six minute commute? I no longer have time to really get going with the karaoke CDs I have in the car. :)

Ami, A six minute commute is almost as short as mine. :-)
good for you!

I sure hope Izzy gets to feeling better soon. I'm glad you told us where her other leg was in the photo. I was trying like crazy to find it. At least you know the drill this time so that will make it easier. We sure go through a lot for our fur babies, don't we. Don't mess my Wednesday blog. It's all about the trials and tributes of my fur babies.

I know, because I have had pets before, that they add much to your life. But, honestly, I will never have another pet because I just can't go through this kind of thing anymore. Izzy, stay strong and get better!

It is good to see that fur baby is getting the best of care.

Jean, can't wait!

Olga - We say this regularly. We won't get another at this age.

Jono- Izzy is spoiled I must admit.

So two weeks on the couch this time?

Mike - I wish! I hope! She is far better along at this point than last time so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My arse is draggin'

Poor little girl. I hope she heals a little faster this time since you caught it early. Good news about the bumps. I never thought about pet insurance until hearing about Izzy. I really need to look into it. You just never know with people or pets.

Poor baby! I wish I could telework. Our agency just went from encouraging teleworking to making it so you can only do it 2 days a month.
