This revelation occurred to me yesterday and I posted it on FB.
'I just realized the suburb I just moved to has a smaller population than the entire 'development' I just left. Scary shit for this city girl.'
This morning we found a new lake for Izzy. She had a ball. We will go back there after the holiday because it got so busy around 10:30a we had to leave. But we got there at 9a so she had a lot of swimming in already.
After swimming we got back here and Rick really wanted to take a nap. He slept terribly. So Izzy and I went out to the courtyard. We are calling it the "stoop" so she understands what we are going to do. So, Let's go sit on the stoop Izzy and she runs to the door and I sit on a chair or sofa type piece of furniture while she suns herself to get dry and warm.
This is our courtyard at the hotel. We are first floor. When I made the reservation I made sure I could get 1st floor! No more stairs for an old dog and hubby who has issues with them.
Yesterday there were a good amount of children playing games in the courtyard. Everyone is friendly.All the kids know Izzy now and yell her name when we go out. It's cute. The majority are like us and are waiting to close on a new home.
Yesterday a man we met on our first day left the hotel. He was from where we are from, he bought a house here to retire. He and his wife stayed here for 3 weeks until the closing. He moved out as I said yesterday and he was so joyous. We will be the same way I am certain!
We shared some stories about things we've noticed. It was nice to meet people who understand this.
Tomorrow is a holiday.
All these days are running together a bit like ground hog day.

It looks a little rural where your new house is, but there is civilization all around you.
Yes, it has been like Groundhog Day for the past year-and-a-half. Legal holidays have always seemed like an extra Sunday, but the beginning of the pandemic felt like several months of Sundays.
Seems like Izzy is getting a bit of a routine and a fan club! Glad you guys could find a place for her to swim! You're retired; so every day is Saturday or Sunday :)

Sounds like a great place to wait out your time to get into the new house. Reading it made me a little sad, though. I had planned to have Levi with me when I move in a couple of weeks. Dogs give people excused to talk to you and all the kids love a friendly dog. I knew he'd help me make friends quicker than I can on my own. But it wasn't met to be...
Cool that you and Izzy have all ready made friends. The guy who just moved to his place might be a good help with local quirks since you are of similar backgrounds.
When I moved to Louisiana with my ex I had never lived in a small town before. I too felt like the town was as big as my subdivision but that was probably not true. While I was always in a hurry to move back to the real city, after I got back to Houston I really missed that small town. Hope you find contentment there.
Jean, I'm sorry that Levi won't be with you but in spirit. I honestly missed this post back in March. I read your comment and went back to read your post. I can't believe I've missed it, assume because I was in the hospital then. Then worried I have alzheimers. Honestly this upset me on many levels but mostly I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sorry this is 6 months late!! Dogs do open you up to strangers don't they?
Patti, we enjoyed that man but he knew as much as us. It was nice to have the same shared experience tho.
Barbara, it really is smaller than our development. We have over 32k in south Riding VA. There are only 29k in my new suburb. So it's not that it just feels like it.nut the major city is only 5-10minutes away and that helps me
Nice to be in a place with people in the same situation. Izzy is a kid magnet!
Rick's comment about peeing on the turf made me laugh. I think he and I would get along quite well. Glad things are going OK at the hotel. Makes things easier with friendly people. And yay for finding a lake for Izzy. Take care.

Mr. Shife, Rick's comment did made me laugh and he said he so wanted to say that when she went on so about it. If he had I would have died. I don't think she had a sense of humor.
Abby, "our halfway house" made me chuckle. I mentioned it to Rick and he said so you'd think we'd be drinking less. He has found that having nothing to do all day makes him want a cheeseburger and a vodka. :-)
