The Dreaded Tupperware Party/Throw back Thursday

Continuing my Thursday Throw Backs.
This is from January 2011.

This post is thanks to Karen at Strictly Simple Style
It reminded me of a Tupperware party that I had attended in the 90's.

Like Karen, I too hate these types of parties.
(Tupperware, Pampered Chef etc)
Back when I lived in my hometown I got an invitation to a Tupperware party at my cousin Janet's home.  It said to bring what you wear to bed for a game. She said there would be food and booze.  Knowing my cousin I knew it would be more fun than most but I hate these things.

I read this piece of mail and moaned. Rick asked what I was reading. I handed it to him and he said, "Oh I would love to go to this."

"Seriously?"

"Hey it's about food and I can eat and drink. We always have fun at Jan and Frank's why should you get all the fun?"

Yes, but they aren't having a party per se Rick. This is boring shit you have to sit through and then pretend you care. Everyone ooh's and aah's at all this plastic shit like it's something special. Then you must buy something"

"Oh it won't be that bad I can use some containers for leftovers."

"We wouldn't have so many leftovers if you didn't make everything by the vat."

He ignores me.
Since Rick was the cook in the family it made sense that this would be more fun to him.
But honestly, I didn't want to go. Because it was my cousin I called her and said I would attend and asked if I could bring Rick?  She laughed and said, "hell yes!"

First of all, I don't sleep in anything when I sleep.  I know, I know TMI.
I hate being encumbered while I slumber.
But for the sake of this game we were to play I threw a big old T-shirt in the bag but then at the last minute decided to take it out and leave the bag empty.

We were leaving when Rick got to the door with his bag.
For some reason, I never even thought about him doing this.
I asked what was in the bag since I knew he slept naked as well.
He laughed and said, "you'll see."

"You mean you put something in there?"

"You'll see."

Oh Lord help me.

We got to the party and a lot of Janet's friends knew us so Rick being there was no big deal.
Besides everyone always loves Rick because he's fun.
He had a few beers, he mingled, he ate.

The older woman who was Ms. Tupperware started the game. We had to guess who's bag belonged to whom by what was inside.  Now a lot of these women put in sexy lingerie.
Yeah, right. We all know full well they don't sleep in this stuff.
She would open a bag, take out what was inside and hold it up for all to see.
We then had to write down on our paper our guess for who might wear this item of clothing to bed.

We were all laughing and commenting and having a nice enough time for such an event.
Then the woman got a bag, she looked inside and burst into the biggest, loudest guffaw ever. She did not take out what was in the bag. She looked around and shook her head.
Her face was now pink. I looked at Rick instantly and he looks like Mr. Innocent.
He never is innocent.

She opens the bag again and says as she clears her throat, "Well I can honestly say I have not seen this item before in a bag at one of my parties"

She reaches in and pulls out an unfurled condom.
Everyone laughs and one gal says, "Well at least we'll all have one correct now won't we?"

My cousin comes over and kisses him on the cheek and say how she loves him.
Rick ends up winning the game getting the most matches of who wears what to bed.   Scary, huh?

Everyone had a fun reaction so I didn't have to kill my husband from pure shame and embarrassment. The women were all howling.  Thank goodness.

He thought the party was fun.  Oh, of course, he did.
I think it had to do with all the women flirting with him, the food, the booze and who had the party.
If he had to attend a normal one he would hate them like normal women do.

Do you like these stupid parties?

peggy, i hate any "party" that comes with strings. last week i went ot a "free" church lunch sponsored by my own church and i was embarrassed because we had to sit through a little inspirational presentation by the ladies who waited tables about dragonboating and breast cancer awareness.

to start with, i have a thing about breast cancer awareness ad how it takes p all the marketing space and advertising space so america can sit on its lazy ass and feel god about not actually helping with patient services, nevermind other diseases that are just as prevalent and maybe not nearly as survivable, but when you call a thing a free lunch, it ought to be a free lunch.

that means NO STRINGS. no presentation. no education. otherwise, you have to invite people to an "educational presentation about breast cancer awareness where lunch will be served at no charge".

so if i have to buy a thing, i don't care how closely reated i am to the hostess, i'm not going.

but i love you, and i love rick now. i have been reading your stories about rick, and now i am totally in love with rick.

you guys ever come up here, and i will make you lunch. and you will not have to buy anything.

but i don't need to see his nightwear, ok?

I agree when about the home parties when it comes to Tupperware, Pamper Chef, etc. BUT I love going to the 'fun' parties, they might be known as 'sleep-overs' any way, they are sex toy parties. Seriously, it's a home party where you invite as many friends as you want (but no men because in KY it's concidered porno if both sexes are present) and they show things to help the libito in the bedroom with ot without a parner. Best damn home parties I've ever been too. Yes I'e been to many and even had one myself because you DO learn some interesting things at these parties!

flask - you make me smile! Do you get sick of me telling you this all the time? I haven't been to Vermont in such a long time I would love to visit and get a free lunch! Last time we were there we took a map (you'll love that) from the washington post. it had things to see and do on the unbeaten path throughout the state. We did it all and more. We had such a fun time exploring. (I grew up spending summers in Poultney on Lake St. Catherine but never went much further than that)

BTW, everyone likes Rick and I think they tolerate me only because of him. I have a girlfriend who is gay and she tells me all the time if she changes teams I better look out because he's hers.

Mama - really it's considered porno if both sexes are there? That is really uptight and a bit repressive. Only in America. Seriously that does sound like some fun - beats pampered chef any day.

That video is a hoot....and 'she' sounds just like my cousin from Long Island....too funny!

Tupperware....hmmmmm.....cue music....

'We're tupperware ladies,
Your tupperware ladies.
We'll show you some new ways,
a million and two ways,
for locking in....fresh--ness!'

That damn jingle has been stuck in my brain for most of my life! Jesus!

And I'm with ya on the no-jammies. I can't stand it when it all gets wrapped up around me, cuz I like to turn over a lot. Of course, when we visit people, I always take my 'old T and work-out shorts' ensemble, and always feel like a big schlub when I come down for coffee and everyone is in really nice jammie outfits! It's like a parade of pretty/cute, and then there's me! Damn! My only consolation is that I didn't spend $50 on an outfit with hearts or clouds all over it! Thank God!

Regan - I actually bought PJ's from Target that had clouds on them. They were Nick and Nora Pj's no less. I had seen them at Nordstroms and on Oprah. But I prefer the Target price. :-) I wear them around the house like sweats in the winter cuz they are so warm. then I take them off to go to bed. I do things a little backwards you know. Besides I didn't buy the top. I just bought the bottoms. i just wear a t-shirt. So like you when guests are visiting I look like a schlep. we get a lot of company and if they have a problem with it they can go home.

i can vouch for mammas comment. in certain states (ahem-the south)you really have to be careful about the *intimate* parties or you can get in trouble. but i guess if you're sitting around discussing dildos with your closest besties, it can be assumed that no one would turn you in if you do cross a line. hopefully.

ive tried sleeping in the nude. its so stressful. what if theres a fire in the middle of the night???

and yeah, i hate any party where there is an obligation to buy. i havent been to one in a long time.

Oh my, that was GREAT!

a sex toy party? ewwww.

if i'm going to buy sex toys, i'm just going to go to a reputable sex toy store and buy stuff there like a respectable person.

and if i have questions, i'll ask the polite and friendly clerk. that's what she gets paid for.

i will not sit around and giggle with a bunch of repressed ladies who can't invite men because then it might be considered porno.

oh, my goodness! PORNO! just because men are there? what if the lesbians show up? don't they count? or don't they buy sex toys?

anyway, if you're buying latex penises and talking about sex, you can call it anything you want, but it's probably already porno even if you only have girls over and even if your grandmother serves fresh-baked cookies.

now, if you'll excuse me, i have to go check on my baking and lay out my clothes for choir practice.

Tammie - if there is a fire my bathrobe is next to my bed. I can run out in the street in my bathrobe. Rick is the same. So don't worry you will not see us on the 11 o'clock news naked.

Yep, it's consider porno so hubbies weren't allowed there. BUT my hubby was able to help me spend the money I earned by all the stuff my horney friends bought ;o)

I have attended a sex toy party but not tupperware. What does that say about me? Anyways I bought some ish and it was a great debacle. I just got another great post idea. You are such an inspiration. Rick....condom. Funny. He seems like such a great guy.

roc - ish? you bought ish?

LOL! Rick does sound fun, I couldn't get my husband to one of these parties if his life depended on it.

they hardly qualify as parties when run the 'normal way' - I got suckered into one (yep, I felt guilty) a few months back - nothing like purchasing ridiculously priced plastic out of guilt. Because you know if you go you haaaaave to buy something. Wish Rick had been there :D

I want to go to one of Mamma's parties!!!

I loved this entry and was actually laughing out loud as I read it!!
I hate those kinds of parties, too, but have not had to go one in a l-o-n-g time. BUT, just this past weekend, I got an invitation to a Mary Kay party from someone whom I would never have figured would host one of those things.
Now, I think I would host a Tupperware party any old time, if I knew your hilarious hy=usband was coming(and you too, of course)

I didn't even know they made Tupperware anymore.

Margaret (Peggy or Peg too) said...

Gal - if you invited my hubby he'd probably show up!

The last one I went to was a Silpada party. I only went because it was being thrown by an old school friend of mine that I hadn't seen since High School. I looked around for something cheapest to buy and the cheapest I could get out was over $30. So now I have some fancy earrings..

I've been to a few "slumber parties". They are entertaining if you are in the right mood. (and have drank enough alcohol)

most of them, I enjoyed. Except when I couldn't find anything I really wanted to buy, but felt obligated to buy SOMETHING.

p.s. I sleep nude too. LOL
