Sad Odd Weekend

Very Busy Weekend of weird events.

Saturday we had a friend over. It was to be a couple but they are having issues and just she came over for dinner. You see her son had a car accident and was in a coma, then when he came out of said coma he was flown to a rehabilitation center in Atlanta that specializes in head injuries. He has had several surgeries, learned to walk and talk again. He still struggles with short term memory and has some physical limitations but overall on the mend and it is truly remarkable. Our friend has been through hell and while her son was in Atlanta she was there with him through it all.

She came home last weekend and we thought we'd have them over for dinner and to get caught up this weekend. It was nice to catch up but also sad. She and her husband are going through a divorce and it's been 28 years coming. I've known the 2 of them since 1987. We lived and worked in Cleveland together at the same company. She moved here and I moved to other cities and who knew we'd end up in the same area again?

She married her spouse in 1987 and they have been fighting and miserable ever since. It is so sad. It's another one of those couples in our life that we like them both individually but they don't work together and we saw this from day 1. I believe I mentioned it once here before but the day they were leaving Cleveland and heading south they were going to get married along the way. When my friend went to her room for something her boyfriend (now husband) told me he didn't want to get married. I told him to tell her, not me. This is huge I told him, you really must discuss this. But he is a spineless man and went along with things for years he didn't want to do. After years of this he became mean. Instead of speaking up, he was passive aggressive and very mean even when people were around.

You take this accident and mix it with stresses from marriage and a child being very very ill it can get very bad or make people see their priorities in a different way and come together.
This couple only grew further apart.

We had a nice evening but it was also sad. She is what she referred to as chronically sad.
She won't go to anyone to talk or get help. I don't get that at all.
If her heart wasn't working/functioning properly she would seek professional help.
But when you are depressed and your brain is not functioning properly why can't you seek professional help? Why is that organ different and a stigma?

I get why she is blue. Her marriage is a hot mess, they told her that her son may not make it and they have been through hell this year. If that weren't enough, her brother and sister in law had a severe accident and are in a facility like her son right now, her father passed away and her mom has had to move to a smaller condo. All this within months of her arriving at the Atlanta facility and being away from home. She's had a tough year who wouldn't be depressed. Add the fact that your husband has fooled around and is mean, she has the perfect storm.
When she left Saturday night it just made me want to hug my husband.

Sunday we had to have a photo shoot. Honestly there is nothing I hate more than having my picture taken. I HATE MY PICTURES. I avoid the camera at all costs. Rick and I go to the same hairdresser. She is also the art director of the salon. She was doing a photo shoot for an event for Valentine's Day. Couple of all sorts. We were the older couple. Jeez. She asked Rick and he was all gun ho. I would have said, NO. But now he commits and I can't get out of it.

So we got there and had our hair done. Every woman there had her makeup done by the makeup person. I didn't know this and I came with makeup on. I was excited to think I was going to have my makeup done professionally as I sat there watching this artist do all the women. But nope, they didn't do my makeup I guess because I had some on. But that bummed me out. I thought that would be fun.

We did our pictures and got out of there. I hope I never see these pics. There were babies, gay couples, old couples, mother and daughters, young couples - the whole enchilada. There were funny pics, serious ones, sexy ones. As you can imagine we weren't the sexy ones. We were the funny old ones.

In other news....We are still dealing with a crazy ass customer. She is certifiable.
One day I will share.
But if I had a gun.....

Wow ... is it possible that I am one of the few people on earth who has a picture of you? I refer, of course, to the one of you and Mike and I when we met a few years back. I think I'll have it bronzed.

I too don't like any pictures of myself. But your pictures look just fine to me. You've got some nice ones on facebook. But it's the ol' self image thing.
