Hi Blogger Friends.
I'm hanging in there.
To address a comment or two.
Yes, vitamin D does cause depression, but I take a vitamin D3 supplement and just had my blood work done, and it's A-okay. But thank you.
Yvonne said I'm resetting. I liked that. That's what it feels like in a way.
I talked to my doctor and had my blood work done as I mentioned, and she gave me some happy pills. Eh.
I am strong and I will get through this. I am trying to be active.
When Rick is going to the gym. I am going with him but I don't go inside. I walk the outside trail since the humidity and temps are down. Everyone goes into the gym. The walking trail winds through the woods behind the gym. It's lovely. I like walking, and it's good for my back too. I used to have sidewalks where I lived, but I don't here, and walking on the road is treacherous to me. The doc seems to think exercise is also key. While I do enjoy nature, I love the solitude.
Doc also suggested a therapist but none take insurance and I honestly can't afford $250 an hour or more.
So there you have it. You've been updated😏
I must admit, I was embarrassingly guilty of watching too much TV during this time. Nothing great, just staring at the tube.
Although I admit I enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club with Helen Mirren, Pearce Brosnan, and Ben Kinsley. (This was filmed in the UK)
I had never read the book, so I can't say if it's close to the book.
I enjoyed it. Not great but interesting. And gosh, Pearce is good-looking at every age, isn't he? Damn!
Like The Great British Baking Show, I have to Google words to be sure I know what the hell they were saying. Chuffed got me. Is that good or bad?
"I'd be chuffed," I assumed, pissed, but looked it up anyway because she didn't look pissed. Ooh, very wrong assumption.
It means pleased, happy, etc. That is for all of you out there, like me, who didn't know. Also, on The Great British Baking Show, they made something with suet. Geez, I have no idea what that could be, but it sounds dreadful. As does kidney pudding and schoolhouse pudding. What the hell are they eating over there? Kidney pudding just sounds YUK.
Back to the movie - I had to laugh when one woman said to another that she had on a nice jumper. Rick said, "She's not wearing a jumper." I told him in the UK, that means sweater. All he said was, Huh.
In other news. I made Rick dinner, and I lost my balance as I pulled the rack out of the oven. My arm hit the rack and I burned myself. Ouch. It's amazing how much a burn hurts, and this one is small.
I've done worse. Think I'm accident-prone? Rick suggested putting me in bubble wrap. He may be on to something.
During this time, I also watched The Price Is Right with Rick. He records it, which is funny in itself. Anyway, I watched a young person who was a big dufus win and make it to the showcase showdown. He won a fabulous sports car, but it was manual, and he said he didn't know how to drive it, so he passed on it. C'mon. I'd learn if I could win a 50K car. Okay, that generation can not write in cursive, read an analog clock, or drive a manual transmission. Blows me away. They make tik-tok videos.
I'm losing hope in that generation said this old person.
There are a lot of car thieves around these parts. It's a big problem we see daily on the Ring app and the news.
I told Rick we should buy a standard next. No fear of them driving off in it.
I didn't learn until I was 18, but I learned.
I drove a standard until we moved to Seattle. The hills were a killer at a stoplight/sign. I came home one day after a terrible day of hills and said that I may have to get an automatic car for ease while living here. I told a person I worked with about this, and she laughed and said she had to do the same thing after she moved there. That made me feel less like a loser.
I'm leaving you with sad and funny Memes.
To all my American readers - I hope you all have a fabulous holiday weekend.

Nice to see you posting again. I need to get back to walking it helps clear the mind a bit!
I am making the decision for my sanity to stick my head in the sand re sad memes, but on a lighter note the Himalayan and love language ones made me laugh out loud.
Bot, that last meme really is shockingly true, isn't it. I hate that so many Republicans have bought and paid for by the gun lobby.
So about the happy pills - it takes.a minute for you to feel the effects. But once they kick in, you aren't really aware that the pill is helping, but you do notice the dark clouds wafting off. Hang in there. Those memes are priceless, and the once about the kids is so true it hurts.
Nina
Yes, ouch for that last one--sad truth. Had to laugh about Seattle. Moving back to Seattle, I had to learn to drive a stick to be able to get to my job. The first time I went up a hill, I of course stalled out and rolled back. Frightening! But I managed to make it without getting into an accident--just a lot of dirty looks and honking. Wonder if I can still do it--but not enough to try. Hope the happy pills help, and I bet the "forest bathing" will, too.
Hang in there. You might enjoy hanging in there with the series, "The Righteous Gemstones"? It's insane and hilarious and provocative.
"The walking trail winds through the woods behind the gym."
I see a Dateline episode in the making.
Good on you for walking around the gym! I find it a bit strange to see people walking on treadmills inside the gym when it's a beautiful day outside, but they've got their reasons I guess.
I've heard that young people aren't into cars or even learning to drive like we used to be. Part of that is - who can afford a car? So they mainly take ubers and make tiktoks of themselves. One of our cars is a stick, so I don't worry about it too much. Plus, it's fun to drive.
I always feel happy when commenting on your blog, because it's the only one I don't have to enter my blog name and url to get in. Oh, wait, it's because it's you, Peg. :-)
The memes: I really need that candy necklace...That constipation cure would not work for me, because you'd have to kill me and drag my body onto that ledge.....yes, not only homicide, buy justifiable.......I never ever pay any attention to mumblings.
I am (and not alone) totally appalled at what this country has come to. I weep for those kids and their families.
A walk in the woods beats the gym every day, even when it's raining.
I love the Price is Right story. I've taken Happy Pills for many years. If you think about it as a medical problem and not a weakness you will do much better. Also, all Happy Pills are not created equal. I suggest a visit with a psychiatrist or at least someone very well versed in which pills are best for the cause of your blues. Also, I think walking, with your headphones listening to a podcast, audiobook or music, is the absolutely best thing you can do for yourself. My diabetes will give me the blues when it is off for too long and I head for a walk, long and short, until I realize I don't need it as much. Better to never stop though. I agree that you are readjusting to your new life and all the struggles and inconveniences you have gone through since the move. Your body is going through something similar to a soldier living through a war. You won't be you overnight but as Arnold almost said, You'll be back.
Also, when I have those days I can't get off the couch, I stumble to my bedroom or kitchen and organize my drawers. Quick, easy and it sets the mind on something it can accomplish.
Thx Julie. I wish i could go inside the gym. My back says otherwise.🫠
I'm glad you found ones that made you laugh
Amen Jean!
Yes, I was told it would take awhile. Thank you.
Sheila, ooh those hills. I moved there from a flat place. I had a couple of those frightening incidents as you did in Seattle. Glad we can now laugh.
DB, thx, I will check it out. John Goodman i believe.
🤣🤣
I can't do a great deal inside the gym due to my back. So I do my physical therapy 3x a week and now walk. The weather is so nice now its great. I can smell fall in the air out there. Oh look at me nature girl🤣🤣
I agree with you about the walking. Yeah there is no damn way I'd go up on that ledge unless I was dead and I was brought up there.
Funny you say that. I did that today...not my drawers but my closet
What a coincidence. We just watched the Thursday Murder Club tonight and just finished it minutes ago. I enjoyed it though I got lost a few times with all the characters. When I began it, I thought it was one of those one-hour series episodes. But we got through it. Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley are all favorites of ours so it was a pleasure. And yes, Pierce . . . like George Clooney . . . just gets better looking with age.
We too thought it would be an hour. I love those 3 as well thats why we tuned in. It was also nice to see older folks not pulled and have their original faces!😁
Those gun vs students meme are just heartbreaking, aren't they?
I have a daughter living in England, and we also watch a lot of British crime procedurals, so I know a lot of the Brit "lingo", but I still pause the stream regularly to google words. Latest one was plonker. haha. Also, when DD moved there, she had to quickly learn the difference between pants (underwear) and trousers (what we call pants). Led to a couple uncomfortable silences in retail situations. LOL.
Omg now thats funny! I'm looking up plonker next but assume its like wanker....I will Google now. Lol
Oops, not like wanker. More like trump, stupid, foolish and inept.🙃
Lived in Bellevue (across Lake Washington East of Seattle for those unfamiliar) in mid-1960s. Drove a 1961 4-on-the-floor (Counting Reverse) VW bug. Across-the-street neighbor was from SOCAL - had never had snow, let alone driven in it. Took her out to do donuts in 8-10” snow. She loved it.
Having moved there from Kansas, so had much experience. BTW: Grandmother taught me driving a stick (1940 Dodge) when I was 11 yo (1949) on the farm with country dirt roads. Learned to dodge muddy ruts.
Cop, I was a neighbor in Issaquah. (was it big as it is now when you lived there?) Donuts in the VW - been there. :-) I had a 74 VW and it was like a tank in snow. (I lived in snow country - no 8-10 inches little stuff) 11 huh? I learned to drive with an automatic but I wanted a VW Bug and they didn't come with an automatic . So I got a car and my boyfriend drove it home for me and every day after work he'd give me lessons until I could do this on my own.
Ah, Peg, Hunky Husband and I went to learn to snow ski in Issaquah. It wasn't skiing in Colorado or the Alps, but it was conveniently located. (I don't know current size, but suspect Issaquah has grown considerably since February 1967 when we left Washington.) Our 1968 house (suburb of Wichita KS) was at the bottom of a hill on a 90-degree bend in the road. When we received any snow, it was apt to drift 3'-4' high in front of the garage doors. Shoveling snow was good exercise. We were just high enough in Bellevue to get snow when Seattle settled for more rain.
Glad you got your bug.
Thanks for the update! It sounds like you’re really taking good care of yourself and finding little joys like walking the trail and enjoying shows—even if you need to Google the slang! Keep staying strong, and here’s hoping for smoother, safer days ahead. Hope you and Rick had a wonderful holiday weekend.
I said to myself I need to exercise more. I walked for a couple of days and now my left knee hurts. I'm now wearing a knee brace.
