Larry David, Loudermilk and Me

The above title is the holy trinity of cranky ole curmudgeons.

I recall in the 1980s we hired this cute bubbly young woman right out of college. We loved her effervescence, her great customer service to our customers, her constant smile, and her patience with people like only a young person who hasn't dealt with the world/public yet can have.
We adored her.

Every time I would mutter, "Oh, how I dislike people!"
She would laugh at me and say, "Oh Peggy, you do not!"
She sincerely believed what she was saying.

I understood where she was coming from.
I am a smiley, giggling, extrovert.
I get the assumption. While that is a part of me, underneath that exterior I'm just a big curmudgeon at heart even at the young age of 35 as I was when I met her. I'm Loudermilk and Larry David only I don't say these things out loud as they do. I think them. I say them when I get home.
I just don't do it to people's faces...yet.

And it's not like it's a southern thing that I've noticed around here.
You know what that is, where people just lie to your face or give you a saccharine sweet southern Fuck you, by saying Bless Your Heart.
I just smile and walk away. I won't ever lie but I'll be nice.
I'll talk shit when I get in my car or to my husband or on my blog.

Fast forward to today and this young woman is no longer an employee but a dear friend and she knows all these facets of me and so gets it.
I do believe she understands me even more after life has thrown the proverbial shit at her as life does. Hey, life does that to a person after 36 years.

I just wish I could have made money off my curmudgeon ways as Larry David and the writers of Loudermilk have.

Thanks for mentioning Loudermilk the other day. We started watching it and love it. So many times I've wished to be able to just say shit like he does.

I hear you.

I learned the true meaning of Bless your heart after our time in TN. I totally get it. People in general have been a disappointment to me. Life isn't the Hallmark channel that is for sure.

I used to refer to myself as a curmudgeon until I looked up the meaning - I am not mean spirited. And neither are you. BTW - a female curmudgeon is a termagant.

Sheila, I know, and he does it without regret! I'd fret for days. I'd feel so uncomfortable.

Susan, 😁

Paula, Thank God's it's like the Hallmark channel or all of we women would be victims of something dreadful when not moving to VT to pick apples and meet the love of our life. LOL

Grace, true and thank you. So I guess I'm a half termagant. (Not mean!)

Keep that shit in the car or you'll wind up on a Karen video.

Mike, always or y'all get it. 🫠

Don is always saying he hates people. Now, he has a soft side for the underdog, the elderly, and kids but on the whole I believe he does not care for most people. I actually do like people, but being an introvert with resting bitch face, I just come off as the curmudgeon so it's a slightly unfair relationship.

"I just wish I could have made money off my curmudgeon ways". It's never too late to start...

Og Olga that's funny. I'd say Rick and I are like Don. We are both extroverts so we appear happy and approachable all the time. Funny how that works.

Kathy, just tell me how. Too ugly and old for TV. Lol

After hearing about Loudermilk from you so many times, I think I'm going to have to watch it Peg.
