Modern Love

Do you know the author Anne Leary?
I've read a few of her books. I enjoy her writing.
She also writes a NY Times column, Modern Love.
It is also a podcast. She started something I see.
Here is some info.

It is going to be an Amazon Prime series. With 8 different couples along the way,  I think in counseling. This sounds like something I would like. Tiny Fey and John Slattery are a couple and Andy Garcia is in it to name a few of those that I really like. I like 'em all but those 3 I am anxious to see.

If you don't know Anne Leary she is the writer wife of actor and comedian Denis Leary. She writes this column as well as books and was on an NPR show. I haven't heard that in a long time so perhaps that isn't on anymore.
Anyway, I enjoy her work and am looking forward to this Amazon show.

She talked about it in a TV interview. They asked how her family liked her putting this all out there. She said she thought it was good that people see a relationship being cared for like a plant needs attention. Everyone told them they had such a great marriage. And they do but when they hit a rough patch they went to a 3rd party to work it out.

Rick and I hear that all the time too. Nothing is perfect. We too have gone to counseling when a rough patch was too much for us to deal with between us. Counseling I have found for me to be helpful. I like that this person doesn't have any preconceived ideas about you it's a blank slate. They don't favor either one of us yet. The stories come out and you learn how to deal with them and talk through them. It's always been a good thing.

If you have Amazon Prime and you think this appeals to you then it begins on Friday, October 18th.

HURRAY! Something to look forward to watch on a Friday night. I was not familiar with Anne Leary so thanks for this heads up.

Olga, I'll be doing the same. :-)

Hmmm, I was tearing up on the promo. There might not be enough kleenex in the universe for me to watch this series......

Ami, there was a fabulous award winning show on showtime called In Treatment. Gabriel Brynes was so good. His face is so expressive. season 1 was good but the following seasons far better. Think it's on Prime or Netflix. You may love it like I did.

That sounds like a good series! I really need a course on how to do streaming and other stuff you can get on a smart TV. Heck, I don't even know if I have a smart TV!

I think the Yankees need some counseling. Not that I'm complaining about their current situation one bit!

On a more serious note, the spousal unit and I have used couples counseling in the past. I liked what it was doing for us, but the counselor up & moved to Virginia and I'm afraid we've backslid in the years since. Might be time to tune in to this show.

Jean, if you don't know you probably don't have one or you'd see the tiles in your menu etc. How do you use Prime and Netflix then? roku or firestick? I like that Netflix is just another channel on my TV line up and in the guide like all my channels. Do you see in the settings of your TV on how to connect to the internet? If not, you have a dumb TV :-)

Brian, I have said since April, we don't have the team to be in the world series let alone win it. So I hear ya.
Yep, counseling is good and it's nice to hear that from a man. Try working with your spousal unit and living together. It brings up all kinds of fun stuff. Thank God today is Friday and happy hour is at 5pm. I like him after 5pm much better. :-)

I don't have Amazon Prime but do believe a third party with no horse in the race can be a great help in any relationship. I tried to talk my sister and her daughter into doing that. Not yet.

Patti, I so wish my father could have seen the need of his 2 daughters age 10 and 13 who so needed this after their mother died. He actually told me not to cry because it made others uncomfortable. He usually allowed the 10 yr old to cry but never the 13 yr old. He made her care for everyone and damn it, it had to be done with a smile. Now, 50 yrs later it is bubbling up. They say things you push down and don't let out will eventually make you explode later in life. I am at that stage. Who knew? It shocked me that this has come up since my father's death. Things I had forgotten, blows my mind and yet makes me angry. I'm thinking I may need to vent this to someone other than bloggers. :-) I hope your sister and her daughter listen to you for their sakes. I wish this didn't have a stigma and people didn't feel it makes them weak. I think it does just the opposite.

Margaret, I'm old school with cable TV and on-demand. I have 96 channels and I mostly listen to them while I'm on the computer. I just checked my manuals for all three of my TVs and they are all dumber than a box of rocks. I will probably need to get a new TV when I move because I think everything there is going to have to connect to the their free WiFi.

Jean, I love that you have a tv dumber than a box of rocks. Too funny. If you get free wifi, I sure as hell would do it then. But you want to be sure it's fast for streaming or else you will have issues and those are most annoying. You have so many exciting things happening, new home, new things, new tv. I'm excited and I am not moving. I wish I were, but I will live vicariously through you for a while longer. :-)

For me counseling was always an opportunity for my wife to tell someone else what a piece of crap I was. I could have told the counselor how my wife was several cards short of 52, but then I would really have gotten it later.

If I had to do couples counseling again, I would demand the first several sessions be separate from my spouse.

Not likely to happen though, I am now in a perfect marriage. No really!

Margaret, if they don't have high speed WiFi it will be a serious deal breaker and I'm not kidding. We won't know the answer to that until later one when the contracts get bid out.
