It's a dark and rainy day here. It is so welcomed.
We need rain desperately.
It should rain all day and that is awesome.
Not for Izzy but for the rest of the population.
Because Izzy hates to be in rain, only roll and swim in water apparently, I sent her to doggy daycare today. She was thrilled and I get to wash my floors and have them clean until she returns. For around these parts, a floor that is clean all day is rare.
I recall people saying you could eat off her floors.
Well, you can mine too, there are crumbs but you'd have to beat Izzy to them.
I have engineered hardwoods. It is what goes down over concrete. It is a thin layer of real hardwoods with who knows what under that. They are pretty, sort of, but I have grown to hate them.
I did not know you could not use an H2O mop on them.
I was not told that when I asked what to clean it with.
I did find out after a few years.
I began to notice a film on them. A friend of Rick's, Denny, who has been in flooring for over 35 years came to visit. He pointed to my floors and said, "You use an H2O mop, don't you? I asked, "however did you know that?"
Well, the film on the wood he shares.
As soon as they are dry you can see every footprint in socks or otherwise.
It makes the floor look dirty. With a wall of windows in that room shining down on the floors it doesn't help the matter any.
I asked Denny how to fix this. You can't he tells me. The water has penetrated it.
I no longer use that mop but I hate how my floors only look nice in photos and nighttime. And with Rick and a dog, I need to wash these floors a couple times a week. And to be honest, I am not sure who is worse, the dog or Rick.
Actually, they are both pretty much the same. Yesterday Izzy came in with leaves stuck in her paws. Rick came in with mud and leaves on his shoes. They both track things in. I could see where Rick went by the tread of his shoe prints all over the kitchen.
He went to the fridge upon coming into the house. He then went to the sink and then back around the island and over to his chair. He laughed that I could tell that. I reminded him that I notice everything so why is that a surprise to him suddenly?
It's not a habit but it's a bad habit. I notice too much, all the time.
Rick asked how I never track things in. I said when I walk through all of that I rub my feet on the doormat before coming in, it's pretty simple.
He laughed and said, "Oh that's what that is for. I better tell Izzy"
Smart ass.

Wives! You all should be detectives. My wife knows things that I have done that I forgot I did.
Joeh...yep I think I'd be very good at being a detective honestly. :-)
Levi my mighty schnauzer will wait on the doormat to get his feet wiped. If a dog can be trained to think of his feet when he comes in, why can't husbands? Seriously, guys, I really want to know why.
If you can't use a wet-as-in-water mop on those engineered floors what do they recommend? My floors never seem to get clean with those wet-wipe pad thingies.
Jean, nothing they have told me to buy has done diddly squat like Bona. They are just damn expensive.
Currently using Rejuvenate. Eh. Same as the others. it's over 6K to replace floors so that isn't happening either.
Oh and Jean, to your point. Izzy knows when she comes in wet to stay on the mat to be wiped down, paws and all. You are correct, I can't seem to train Rick. If Izzy walks in with me I stop her if not wet, as she was yesterday. Of course he doesn't see it or think about it.
Wives are unbelievable. Mine is. Mary Lou just seems to know what to do at all times even when I try tell that she might be wrong, guess what, she's right and I'm wrong. I'm so glad that she decided to marry me. That is when I was totally correct, asking her to marry me. LOL See ya Peg.
Cruisin Paul
Paul, good job, good wife. You have it made mister!
Like Joeh says, I can call up memories of the years which include stuff my husband did, that he'd rather not remember.
I have no idea what to do in cleaning laminate floors. Good luck.
Susan, it's a curse to always be right😊I remember things from 40 yrs ago but yet never know where my keys are.
The floors aren't laminate but wood. Laminate would not have this happen I believe since the issue is water. I sure messed up.
I was going to suggest Rejuvenate but I see you have tried it. Such a bummer. Hope yo find an answer.
Patti, there is no answer. I ruined the hardwoods. Got an extra 6K so I can have them removed and new put in?
I didn't know that about the floors. I have some really inexpensive wood knock-off in my kitchen and bathroom. I wasn't given any instructions so I guess they either don't have that problem or they just don't care because they are always replaced when you move. My last house, 1950s Rancher, had wonderful old wooden floors which were in great shape. I loved the look of those floors after I cleaned so it was a labor of love. Now that I think about it, I miss that old place.
Oh now I made you homesick for your old home Barbara.
I'm sorry!!
I have lived in a couple of old homes with nice solid hardwoods and in one I sanded them and restained them and they looked so damn good! I made these a mess. Story of my life.
I'll take dingy wood over tile any day. Stupid tile.
Julie, trade ya!
