Monday Mornin'

We had great weather this weekend.
Only in the '80s so Rick got a lot done.
I have not taken photos of that. I'll wait and show you the end results.

The young man who lives next door came over with a beer in the afternoon and sat and chatted as Rick worked.
He did come with a beer for Rick so Rick got to stop and talk and enjoy the cold beer. Then as the young man sat there Rick began to go back to work. He watched Rick and said, "Oh now I get why this is so difficult. Damn Rick for an older guy you are kickin' butt. I could not do this"

Well, that was all my old man's ego needed to hear as he puffs out his chest. I shook my head and walked inside.
I got Izzy and we proceeded to head out to the front of the house and power wash my portico.

The young man was going for a run with his wife and they stopped and chatted with me out front.
The young man said, "My father is younger than Rick and he can't do this kind of stuff. Is Rick going to be okay?" I laughed and said, "Yes, he will be fine. He does physical labor all day. But trust me he will never do a project like this again. He realizes he is older and can't do things the way he wants to do them."

After he and his wife ran off I got to thinking. This young man just turned 30 a few months ago. If he was really worried about Rick instead of beer he'd offer to help. But he is very heavy and pasty. Like he sits inside all the time or something. He is an army vet but I am thinking he may have only done IT in the army because this man can't move well.
(but he's trying and they both began running and I have no room to talk I know)

But as Rick said to me, this young man doesn't know a screwdriver from a pair of plyers. (Nor would Rick want the help honestly.)
He told Rick he has never done physical labor in his life. Again I keep thinking about the army.  Can you be in the army today and be that heavy and soft?

I know when they moved in they had nothing and were always borrowing, a ladder, a hammer, screwdrivers and once even a tape measure. Finally, Rick just went over there to see what they were doing and he did it for them in a minute or so and took his tools home.

Here is my old man taking a break. He has finished all the way to the back of the garage wall now. The only thing left are the steps and a partial wall going down the steps.

I wanted to show you the version of road kill at our home. Izzy brings out her 3 favorite stuffed animals and one sad football. She will not lay on the new boards, only the old ones where she has her toys. So one morning she went out there and laid on her teddy bear. When she was ready to come inside she left all her animals there. That made me laugh.
Silly dog does not like change. The area rug by the sofa will be different this year and it will take forever for her to walk on it or lay on it. She is a funny quirky dog, like her owners I suppose.
Did you see this on Sunday?

You got yourself a handyman, there with Rick. How does one get to be 30 - after serving in the military - without doing any physical work? I don't think drinking beer and watching Rick is gonna do it for him, but good that he's trying to change things. Speaking of change, Izzy is too cute.

David Sedaris makes a good point. "What about ACTUAL whores with hearts of gold?" Hahahahahaha!!

Abby, yes I am fortunate he is handy. I wonder the same thing about this young man.
The last comment about him being a whore with a heart of gold made me really chuckle. I love this guy!

Well, damn, Margaret. I said," I have to have this place back to normal, with no holes in the ceiling, by the end of next week," and it's almost done. Thanks!

Olga - Yeah! Glad it worked! I would have gone further, I'm a bitch. :-) No holes in ceiling, ceiling repaired and painted by the end of next week.I hope it's done by Friday or way before.

I once put down a 10 x 10 paver patio. Every muscle in my body including and especially my fingers ached for two days...never again. The deck is looking.

Dogs are so funny.

I need to do the same thing to my little 8 x 12 deck. Might get to it this summer. Maybe not.

Save some of the old boards for Izzy. Make a little platform from them.

Joeh, his hands hurt him most from the deck wrecking bar and his lower back. I'm sure the bending over has something to do with that. I made him a great dinner and cocktails and even rubbed his back for him. Sometimes I'm a good wife. :-)

Mike, don't laugh but we actually thought of that. But then decided against it. She's spoiled enough.

So many young people don't know how to do things around the house. But I can't really say this is anything new. I remember when Don and I first got together and we wanted to dry wall a room. I just assumed he'd know how because my dad could do anything. I came home once to find Don sitting in the middle of the room, nothing started because, he confessed, he didn't know where to start. Fast forward through the years and he taught himself to do everything that needed doing around the house that the rental we bought.

Love Izzy stories. Levi likes to bring his toys out on the deck, too, and I always have to send him back to retrieve his 'babies' when it's time to come inside.

Unfortunately, my dad never taught us the things that a man should be able to do, I still don't kno how to use an electric drill and I'm going to be 70 in 4 months. He was always scared we would get hurt. I would have rathered learn and get hurt instead of feeling so stupid. But at least I can draw and paint. See ya Peg.

Jean, Rick can't do plumbing and crown molding. He has done both - those are things we have hired out for. I forgot her toys out there to have her bring in and we got a sudden store. I ended up throwing them in the dryer.

Paul, I can't paint or draw. I don't have any talents at all. I'll trade your ability to paint and draw with my....I got nothing!!

Well someone has to push paper around in the Army. Think Rick was right, the guy wouldn't have been much help but the beer and ego building was probably refreshing.
Sorry you vetoed Mike's idea. I was thinking the same thing.

Patti, Izzy, The Diva, has an outdoor bed. She is taken care of. The little shit is spoiled.

I admit that I'll be glad when Rich finishes too. That is some hard, hot work. Tell him I said to save a little of that energy for old age. You'd be surprised how you wake up and its gone one eay!
