Making a Bed

In every relationship roles take place.
Over time Rick's role has been of garbage taker outer & handyman work.
Which I might add is a whole lot of stuff around here!
Margaret's has been everything else.

Rick is a man who can build anything I ask out of nothing more than a few paper clips and twine. My very own McGyver.
But for the love of God, he can't make a bed.
I truly believe he does this on purpose.
He can't possibly be that clueless, can he? He calls it a 'block'.
Block my ass I always say.
He can't do the hospital corners. Come on that isn't difficult.
My mom showed me as a kid and I could do them.
I have shown him this over & over again for 31 years.
Is he really that dumb?

He had me use his saw once and insisted on teaching me how to do something on this damn saw. I was so afraid of losing a finger and I told him I liked my fingers and jewelry too much to learn. I am clumsy and accident prone, I don't want to be clumsy with a saw. But he insisted until I did it. I did it but did not like it. I did it again and he kept saying, look how good you are. I then said, "Okay you won, I learned, but I don't wish to do this ever again please." I will use any tool except a saw!

Sunday as I was stripping the bed he asked if he could help. I paused.
He said, "You really have to think about that?" I laughed and said do you wish for me to share what I was thinking?
He laughed and nodded yes.
I told him that I had to decide, is it worth him doing this and me doing it over again or me trying to show him for the 400th time and me doing it over again myself anyway?

He sat on the bed and had a good laugh. I see your point he says.
He said he really doesn't know why he can't get this, but let me try again. So foolish me did.
Halfway through he ripped it off in frustration and threw me on the bed laughing.
He did not learn how to make a bed Sunday.
But after all our fun on said bed, I still had to make the damn bed! Men!

So funny! Clearly he is using attempts at bed making for a whole 'nother purpose!

And absolutely men pretend they can't do things around the house. I once heard my son, six years old at the time, telling his friend that the thing to do when asked to complete some chore is do it badly and then your mother will just do it herself. I think it's in their DNA.

Olga, I think you are correct!!

"Can I help you make the bed." That's sure a clever come on line Rick's got going for him.

I've been trying to teach my PROFESSIONAL CLEANING WOMAN to make hospital corners and she can't get it either. She cleans 3 houses a day, 5 days a week and apparently I'm the only one who wants them.

Jean, yes, the sly dog.
I don't get why this is hard though.
If a 12-year-old can learn after one time anyone can.
Funny that a cleaning professional doesn't know either. Now that to me is a head-scratcher.

Maybe he is afraid that if the military finds out he can do hospital corners they will draft him!

I read in a health magazine that leaving a bed unmade is healthier than making a bed. Unmade beds don't hold sweat, moisture, body odor, etc. Fresh air is good for sheets. Maybe he was a doctor in a prior life!

Toni, that is good to know. I only make my bed on two occasions, when stripping the sheets. If company is coming. :-) I have been known to just do it for the helluva it and/or guilt. But now that I know this...

Hmm, in my modest opinion Rick knows too well how to do it... not the hospital corner ;)

I never make the bed. It's better and cleaner for the bed to let it air out during the day. You're not one of these crazy people that likes to have the sheets tucked in under the bed are you? When I go to a hotel room the first thing I do is pull the sheets out from under the mattress.

I don't make my bed until nighttime when it's time to spread things up and turn on the electric blankets to warm things up.

Eric likes his side of the bed not tucked in, which makes the blankets and stuff on MY side fall off during the night.

He blames *me* for thrashing around in my sleep.

I just pick up all my stuff and shake it flat lol. Easier. My neighbor taught me how to do the hospital corners when I was a kid but I rarely do them.
