We used to. In fact way back when we used to send them with photo's if they were close family or friends or even a newlestter - yeah I hear the groans.
But I don't send many now. My parents and a neighbor at the lake because it means something to both of them.
Even just less than 6 years ago I was sending them. I remember taking them on a trip with me to the midwest while on business. I sat in my hotel room and addressed them all so I could send when I got back. I would do most anything to get them out on time.
Over the years the ones we received and those we sent seemed to have dwindled to very few cards. Are we all too busy? Is it the expense? Or just another damn thing that feels like a "have to" during this stressful season? Is it because everyone now only uses technology so writing a Christmas card is dated? (oh no, not the pen!)
Or is it because we don't send them so we don't get them back?
Are you sending Christmas cards this year?

Nope, not at. I remember one year I worked so hard on the cards, addressed them all and added stamps (which by the way is not cheap these days) Then forgot to send them all out. So no more of that for me. I'll just facebook people a happy holidays..faster, cheaper, and better for the enviornment.

i fall somewhere in the middle on this. i dont love the idea of a christmas card but i know some people who really get into it, so i usually send out a few. i do enjoy getting them from my friends, and i keep them displayed until the holidays are over. then they get trashed. which makes me feel guilty but i cant hold onto that stuff forever.
knowing that you arent that into cards, i wont be sending you one. ill just wish you a happy holidays right now!
what are your thoughts on the holiday newsletters? i HATE them.
Tammie - I may have mislead you. I LOVE getting them - I don't like "another thing I have on my list to do that never seems to get done" aspect. I got 5 of them and 2 newsletters after I posted that entry.
One of the newsletters went on and on and was neither interesting or funny. I don't care about the hair transplant or your grandchilds illegitimate child. But the 2nd one was short and funny. It was just pictures on a page randomly with captions that were a hoot. Just like the couple who sent it. I loved it and it made us both laugh. I handed it to Rick and he said, "now this is a newletter I can get into" So there's your answer.
The last two Christmases, I didn't send any Christmas cards because of my extra hours at work and finally realizing I couldn't do it all(and that I never will be that type of person who might otherwise plan ahead and write and address them all before Thanksgiving if they knew things would be too busy in December).
But, I also learned that I didn't much enjoy opening the many cards I received in the mail, knowing that so many friends and family at least tried to make the time to send cards and keep in touch.
So, this year, I did make my own cards once again and had them all sent out in time. It truly made me feel much better, and in the Christmas spirit again.
But thats just me.
I also have some cards left over--if you want to send me your snail mail address, I'll gladly send you one

I hate those newsletters some people send at this time of year. We always get one from my sister-in-law's sister. It is too much(bragging). My husband always threatens that one year he'll compose a faked dysfunctional family newsletter and send it to them to shock them! ;-)
