I have shared that I have been watching a lot of TV.
I saw a show called Back to the Frontier.
Rick and I both watched it.
Rick would have loved to do this.
Oh, not me.
I wouldn't have been as much of a baby as the women were when they had to remove their jewelry and makeup. But using the outhouse wouldn't be my favorite.
Or eating my pets. No, I'd become a vegetarian.
I found it very fascinating. How one man was such a prick and wouldn't help the other families. How the one family had two boys, they treated them like princes, and they were brats. They whined that they couldn't sleep without their white noise machines. They never helped the fathers. The fathers would say, well they are only 10 and 12. Please!
Another family with 2 boys who were the epitome of good little men who helped both parents and were terrific got a lot out of this, but oooh, their mother had a difficult time. At the beginning, I wanted to smack her. Get a grip, what did you think this would be like when you signed up to go back to the 1800s? She cried a lot but she came around when she made butter and a pie and found she could actually do things.
Anyone else watch this? Would you do this?
Rick would jump at it, as I said. I would run in the other direction. I'd visit him on weekends and be sure to take Imodium so I wouldn't have to use the restroom....tee hee.
I hope they do this again. I'd watch another set of families do this. Months without any technology and distractions, I think, did them all good. Especially those girls. It was so interesting to watch them grow in confidence.

I never understood people thinking kids could be too young for chores. I don't mean like plowing a field, but age-appropriate things like setting the table or making their bed. It sets up future expectations. It's not like you can flip a switch once they're 16 and they'll start doing things without a fight.

Ah, another childless douche like me😉 I had chores and I don't recall a time when I didnt and I didnt get paid for them. Yeah, as a kid I thought my parents were mean! In high school I got $5 a week for lunches. I didnt always eat so I had money.
Sounds like Rick would definitely be in his element, and I can totally see why you’d need a little Imodium! I think I could do it but I wouldn't want to. Been a little too spoiled by technology.

I've had my share of outhouses at scout camps. No thanks, no more.
This would definitely not be a Peg and Rick laugh-along. My ex would have been great at it, but not me. I watch the Alone reality programs and am amazed at what people can do without any help or supplies. Some people are creative and naturally knowledgeable in that aspect - but not me.
Our scout camp had toilets down the way. Lucky us
Barbara, You are right. No laughing in the frontier for me. I've seen Alone because Rick likes that stuff. I shake my head and leave the room. Once I didnt because of my back and thought why would one even want to do this? No shelter or food? Nope.
Where are you watching that program? I hope its on Netflix. I hope they didn't actually eat their pets because that would be a deal breaker for me as well.
Jean, this was on HBO/Max. No, no pets were actually eaten. They had to hunt, their cows were for milk, chickens were for eggs etc. I was exaggerating. Sorry. but they did talk about it. It's a good show to me. It's short and it makes you wonder how you'd do. I won't do well.

I think I would enjoy it as much as Survivor, which I detest. I don't have HBO anyway, whew!
