'Playdate'

My "playdate" as my husband called it went well.
We went for a walk. She loves to hike. Mmmmm....
After our walk, we went back to her home for coffee. I ended up with just water.

She is a very nice lady. Will we be buddies? I don't know. People are funny. I know if someone came to my house and they were afraid of Izzy I would put her somewhere. Perhaps the back bedroom and keep the door shut until this person leaves. But she wouldn't do that for me for her feline friends. So we had to sit on the patio. I suggested we go to the Ugly Mug as she said originally but she wanted to stay home I guess. So we sat on her patio and chatted. It began to get a bit chilly and rain was obviously about to begin so that was my out.  There were a lot of things. We shall see. It just cemented how immature I must be. Ah, self-realizations.
Her husband has a great garden and grapes growing in a mini vineyard.
He makes wines. When I asked the grapes' varietal she didn't know. How do you grow grapes and not know this if making wine? Her husband she said may know. I laughed it off because it wasn't that important. I was just curious I told her.

Today is Friday Fun Day. Well, not quite for Rick. He is getting his flu and booster today. Then we head out to discover things. Anything other than unpacking, painting, building, moving etc.

We had a neighbor on Mink Meadows where we used to live that moved to a 'burb of Raleigh two years ago. He called last night to see if we'd want to go to dinner at this French Bistro in Raleigh. I told Paul that you can't just call a woman on Thursday night and expect her to say yes to an invitation for THIS Saturday. I then asked, "what kind of girl do you think I am?"  He said, "Easy"  I laughed and said you're right and we'd love to meet you there. I can put on real shoes!

A reason to dress nicely for public consumption. We have most of our clothes now. Outerwear is not all inside the house yet. (boxes in garage)
But since we don't need a coat I think I now have everything I may need to go out.
Paul asked how the unpacking was going. I told him it was like a wearing a size 40 waist and squeezing into 32's. (I tell women if you are a size 14 and you are trying to get into a size 2 - not gonna work and that's my unpacking status right now)
He said he remembers all this stress.
His girlfriend sold her house, he sold his (like ours) and they moved into a smaller home. So too much of everything like us and had to sell.
He said it took 6 months to be fully unpacked and another 6 to get everything where it needed to be or sold etc. We figured a year but I sure didn't want to hear that. Shit. Reality isn't all it's cracked up to be. :-)

I don't know if you all would remember the nice young high school boy, Luke, that I chatted with at lunchtime when he was walking his dog and I was with Izzy sittin' on the stoop. Well, he graduated and sent us some pics. His party was around the time we left so we couldn't attend. He got a partial baseball scholarship to UVA, he graduated with awesome grades and he had just pitched a no-hitter. He was flying high and wanted us to see the pictures and the article about his game. I asked his dad why only partial scholarship. That is all that is given to baseball players. Football makes them the money so that is why that is the way it is. I remember after the horrific shooting at UVA their baseball team played the NYY. It was a fun game that thankfully was televised for us in DC Metro.

I hope this kid is going to be in the majors someday. He is already over 6' and has a great arm. If he can stay healthy he has a great chance.  We met this young man when he was 6 or 7. He was in his pj's walking his new puppy in the snow when we met him and his new puppy Shadow. Shadow and Izzy hit it off immediately and ever since then we've been friendly with his family. He has a sister who was a dorky-looking little kid who is now a drop-dead gorgeous young woman in college. There are leagues he plays in that have nothing to do with his high school so that he can be playing more throughout the year. He says they play down here sometimes so we are hoping to catch a game of his someday. Covid really stopped us from seeing him the last 2 years.

Carmax did not call me back so I called them - again. I told them I was going to bother them daily until I got this info. The young woman on the phone was so nice and she said I don't even see that this was submitted. I can only submit it again or you can ask to speak to a supervisor. I laughed and said I would like to speak to your supervisor. She said, "good choice"

Jessica, her supervisor, took the info, apologized, and said it would be faxed to me in one business day.
It would be a rush request for my inconvenience. Ah huh.
We both felt it best to fax to me if the number we got from the VA DMV was incorrect or something at least I would have the release letters. Yeah. So let's see now if I have this by end of business day on Monday as promised.
I'm not holding my breath but c'mon we need a break here!

I'm off to wear outside clothes now. Fun Day Friday is about to commence.
Enjoy your weekend and Halloween!

Every time someone says fax I cringe. Our work fax goes to an email that everyone forgets to check (or doesn't know how).

Having a new friend whose husband makes wine could make you over look a lot of things.
Your young baseball player friend sounds interesting. Keep track of him and if he makes the show, let us know. That would be so cool.

I assume your plates from Virginia are still good for a while.

Julie, mine goes to an email too so I understand this!

Patti, I will. I just really like this kid. I can say I knew him when!

Mike, a little bit more.

You have a fax machine? Lucky you. LOL Will they call you? I doubt it.
Have a scary Halloween Peg. Boo.

Good for you for not standing up your playdate. Having you go to her cat house after the walk instead of a coffee shop (almost) sounds the like start of a true crime story.

Paul, no fax machine. They fax and it comes to my email. It is 2021 :-)

Abby, it does, doesn't it? She asked how I became so afraid of cats. And of course the obligatory laugh. If it had been a fear of spiders she'd think nothing. If a fear of heights would she say, Oh just stand her on the 2nd-floor roof and you'll be fine. Nope. You only get abused if it is an animal they love. A fear is a fear. They never seem rational to those not in fear. None are based in reason you know?

Not sure about a neighbor who insists you put your dog in another room, but won't do the same for you with her cats. Still, might be good to have a "neighborly" relationship ~ maybe they'll gift you with some of their home made wine :-)
You're making me glad I didn't buy my used car from Carmax too. Ugh.
