We're Throwing BackThursday

First I would like to tell you what I found funny on Tuesday evening.
The county I live in is all virtual learning. Because of the nor'easter, they said on Tuesday night we MAY get 3-5 inches of snow on Wednesday so they were going to have a snow day.
Think about that for a moment - A.Snow.Day.
A snow day for those already at home?  Rick and I looked at one another and laughed. Do they not know what a snow day actually is?
Did the south lose because they were cold? I will never understand their issues with weather of any sort other than hot and humid.  But it does make us laugh. These folks would melt if they lived up north where there are 4 seasons and seldom or never a snow day.

Patti was discussing having wrist pain and having to use your non-dominant arm or hand.  Boy, it's difficult so I could relate to all of her struggles.

Because I am lazy this week I am giving you something from 2007/2008. I talk about not being able to use my dominant arm/hand for 4 weeks. I found it dreadfully difficult and my husband didn't make it easier all the time either.

I am right-handed and knowing what was coming up he kept reminding me to do things with my left hand. But I just couldn't and would go back to my right hand. Each time I walked into the bathroom he would yell - use your left hand, practice! It would make me laugh. But he was right on that one.

Here ya go....enjoy my pain.

That was a true "Rick" story. You two have something amazing.

I read the old story, and a couple more from the aftermath, and now you've got me scared shitless.

I had a minor SLAP tear in my right shoulder in 2011, but a couple months of PT took care of it. But now I'm having a worse problem with my left. I did some PT thought-out this year but it never got any better. When I stopped doing the exercises at home, it got worse. Range of motion is terrible. Hard to sleep, put on shirts and jackets, reach for anything, or even move covers around while in bed.

I had an MRI done on Monday and I'm talking to the Dr about it tomorrow. I'm hoping a new course of PT, more specifically directed to the MRI findings will help, but if not, it'll have to be surgery.

Your descriptions of life with the sling highlights everything I've been worried about. All along, I figured I'd at least be able to work from home because I thought I'd be able to type.

I don't think I'll be able to count on Sweetpea for as much help as Rick gave, simply because she has to keep teacher's hours in front of her laptop. Any assistance for we will have to come before, after, or within well-timed breaks.

So I'm going to push real hard for one last stab at PT. (With a different team this time, the one I used in 2011, due to insurance reasons.)

The fact that you recovered will be the light at the end of the tunnel for me if I do have to get the surgery. Wish me luck!

Bluzdude, the torn labrum wasn't near as bad as rotator cuff. Had them both done same time. Its a quicker recovery as well. I'll send Rick up to be Floyd Nightingale for you!! For me the pain after was nothing compared to the pain before! Good Luck.

We've already had the snow and it's in the low 21 degrees. Brrrr. Enjoy your day Peg.

I am so glad my post reminded you of this one. Wow, what an adventure you and Rick had during that awful time. Thank goodness for percocet and humor. You were virtually helpless and while he wasn't the smoothest at dressing or being a hairdresser, he was amazingly attentive. So glad you have eachother.

Paul, we got 3 inches and then rain and freezing rain. And it's as cold as what you are dealing with BUT tomorrow 40s. Whew.

Patti, I am glad we have each other too because no one makes me laugh like he does. Sometimes laughing at him but laughing. No, he wasn't the smoothest of dressing me but boy he is smooth at removing the clothing. :-) And what I didn't say in the post, I had to cut the brush out of my hair so then I had a real mess on my hands. Oh that wasn't pretty.

We'd all die if we had a snow storm here

Firstly, we had a big snowstorm back in October and the schools declared a snow day. At first, we were all, what the...? They're already schooling from home. But then the superintendent chimed in and said that since 2020 sucks so much for school kids, he didn't want to take snow days away. Go out and play in the snow. Yeah, I had to agree. BUT, we had 18 inches, not MAYBE 3-5!

I laughed at your story of Rick trying to dress your one-armed self and fix your hair! I had a friend have surgery on both wrists at once, so her husband had to be her hands for 2 weeks. We're talking EVERYTHING! Dignity be gone.

Abby we got 2.5 inches and closer to the city got less. A snow day. Crazy.
Oh My God your poor friends. I think I would have insisted on doing each at a different time!! Talk about your vows, in sickness and in health!

Julie, as well you should you don't get snow. It's not like these folks don't get it annually.

I think you should do some videos about Rick's bra removing ability. Maybe go for a Guinness world record.

If only I could video me laughing/crying with tears running down...I swear Peg. I'm so sorry to find your pain so darn funny.

I didn't have the type of sling you had (the one with the little spacer between your body and your arm ~ but I know what they look like. My sling was just a plain affair, it has a strap that goes around your waist and then over the opposing shoulder. Everything was a pain. But I couldn't do the hair at all, so Romeo did it for about a month. I held the brush, and directed him where to point the stupid blow dryer. He hit me in the head with it a few times, then held it so far away from my hair it took forever to dry. He had to help me with my bra, and pants too. But I did manage to get them down enough for the pee break. I was never so happy to be able to dress myself and do my own hair again! But it is great to have a spouse that is willing to do it all when we're down and out :-)
