Sittin' on the Wall

Yesterday morning, very early, before work, Izzy wanted to sit outside.
She never really wants to spend time in the back because it is full sun and hot.
The front of the townhouse is cooler and in shade 24/7.
And most importantly there are no people in the back.
She can't oversee her kingdom that way. She needs to see the people.

So at 7:30am looking quite the fright, I sat out on the wall with her.
She lays on the sidewalk and just looks back & forth at all goings on around her.
She absolutely loves this, I do not enjoy it one bit sitting there with her. I'd much rather be moving, walking, anything but sitting.

She then laid her head down and watches me walk to the mailbox.
Just like this. What you couldn't see from the photo her tail was going a mile-a-minute. Too lazy to walk to the mailbox with me, but can't take her eyes off me.
Then when I returned to the wall to sit a bit with her she just fell over as if she thought she was going to nap here. Does this even look comfortable?
Looks like a dead dog on the sidewalk.
No, we are going inside so you can sleep there, missy.

But just as she laid down like this a jogger came around the corner and just jumped right over her and kept going. Izzy never moved. Then the girls next door came out to get in their mom's car to be taken to school.
They asked if Izzy was okay.
She's fine I tell them.  Izzy never moved her body, she lifted her head for just a minute to look at the girls and then her head was back on the ground. Her tail wagged but she never moved otherwise.

Then as I am gathering my things to move inside, another walker came by.
She shrieked, "OMG is she okay?"
I laughed and said she is fine. I said, "Izzy, UP" She got up and walked to the front door and the woman said, "wow, my dog would just run away"
I said there is no way this dog will leave either of us. She is like velcro.
Then the woman asked if we'd train her dog. I told her no thank you and she laughed. I told her to have a great day and Izzy and I went inside to begin our day. Now she is sleeping at my feet. My personal foot warmer.

It is supposed to be very hot today but right now it's cool and I like it.
The next two days in the high 80's. Ick.  Izzy hates hot and humid as do most humans. But she loves swimming. She's been swimming daily now since March. We are finding that swimming every day is still what she wants to do more than anything, but we have taken her down to every other day since her arthritis is worse. She limps a bit after 2 days in a row.  She would swim if she were dying and while I know how happy it makes her it is foolish to push her like that.
Ah, my poor old gal.  It hurts to see her slow down like this.

10 + years ago I couldn't walk nearly as far as I can today with no issues.
My first year with Izzy I would trek 3-4 miles a day. I recall my shins burning.
I had an old fashioned pedometer (no fit bit) at the time and I would look at the miles and think I can't do another step. But the dog wants to go so I went.
All the while I knew this was good for me too, not just this energetic puppy.
Today I can walk miles upon miles with no issue or burning shins.
So Miss Izzy was good for me in more ways than one.

Izzy is a one-of-a-kind wonder dog!

On that toilet paper thing - I used to agree with the over the top method. Then we got cats. The cats taught us 2 things. 1 - Always, always shut the bathroom doors. 2 - In the event of a failure @ #1, hanging the TP so it comes off the bottom will cut your losses.

The yes and no are ass-backwards.

Why do dogs always want to lay where they will be directly in the way...like the middle of the side way or directly in between you and the coffee pot? I wouldn't mind if Levi would let me step over him like Izzy does, but he gets up every time I go by.

Hanging the toilet paper like the second drawing doesn't work for all cats. I know someone who did that and their cat destroyed the wall instead of just a roll of paper.

Brian, first mistake - getting cats! :-)

Jean, if you knew the answer to the question you raised you'd be very very rich! We all want that answer.
The answer to the TP is, do not get a cat!
Over the falls, never under the falls!

Gonna make a cop of the toilet paper thing and post it next to the TP holder.

I can see why passers by might have been concerned but our dog was about that energetic and often was in those same poses. Throw him a ball to fetch and he would just give you a "if you want the ball why did you throw it away and stop bothering me about it."

Olga, That's funny about the ball. I kind of miss my ole energetic girl. But I've slowed down too so I understand all too well.
I can't wait to hear what the comments will be when you post this next to the TP holder.

If Buddy ever behaves that well I'd give up and let him walk me too. Buddy is on the 3rd day of being housebound with his dew claw problem. He is not a happy camper and therefore I am not a happy camper.

You might check with your vet to see if there are any salt water looks available the dogs in your area. The buoyancy from the salt water would allow her to exercise but not aggravate her arthritis. Just a suggestion. She's adorable!

Pools not looks. I hate auto correct.

So glad she still loves to swim. Great exercise with no stress on joints. However if she is slowing down, won't you also lose all the ground the young Izzy gave you?
The TP reminds me of the classic scene with Helen Hunt in "Mad About You" about replacing the roll. I laughed so hard at that one.

I hate just sitting like that too. I always feel like I'm wasting time.

Sad when our doggies get old.
