Dog Commericals

The other day while in the grocery store I found myself humming to the music that was playing. As I am walking down the aisle I began to sing the next song and I realized something. I am so old that I am digging the music being played in my grocery store.

That evening while watching some television a song comes on for a Toyota commercial and I started singing the words and dancing around making Rick laugh. The women in the commercial singing this song are not old enough to even know this song but I loved it. It was recorded in 1963, Leslie Gore, You don't Own Me.
I was only 7 when it was a hit so I don't know why I know it so well or why I know all the words and can belt it out. But I do.

Moral of the story is you're damn old when all the commercials, elevator music, and the grocery store is playing music that you grew up with. Although my favorite rock song is Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC and so far it hasn't been turned into Muzak just yet.

And speaking of commercials, I just adore these Subaru commercials with the damn cutest dogs.
If you haven't seen them, check out a couple of these. The puppy going to sleep is so damn cute it makes me want another puppy.

Never seen any of those commercials. They must be regional to the East coast.

gee, I thought they were national. I should post all the ones I like then. C'mon dont we all have that same trouble with voice recognition as the dogs?

I love those commercials. I've seen them here in Oregon. Every time there's a new one, my hubby saves it on the DVR and shares it with me later.

But the Subaru is the #1 choice of the spoiled and self-absorbed yuppie population that has taken over our area.
You know the type, right? Males (wool sweatyhead spoiled americansis) with their misshapen sweaters and strange knitted hats. Females (hodgepodge loudmouth twitticus) in unusual mismatched sweaters/sweatshirts with skirts and leggings. They both complete their ensembles with Birkies or Crocs, worn with socks. Yeah. Them.

Ami, I know them well. I lived in Seattle for a few years..longest years of my life. :-) They are the same there. Rude, entitled and dressed like they live under a bridge. Oh, how I know them. And when I saw how everyone wore socks with sandals my husband and I laughed. I had an Uncle that did that and we always made fun of him. He just needed to move to the PNW, then he'd have been cool. :-)

Yes, I've seen that Leslie Gore commercial too. You don't own me was a really big hit so I'm sure it seeped into your subconscious - especially if you had older siblings. I asked an attorney/music affectionado friend of mine why all the good old songs where showing up in commercials. He said the copyright on them were expiring so they could be used - I don't remember if he said for free or not.
